LUMBER RIVER STATE PARK, NORTH CAROLINA: The recent tragedy surrounding Mica Miller's untimely death has brought to light a series of legal documents shedding new light on her tumultuous relationship with her husband, John-Paul Miller, a pastor in the Myrtle Beach area.
Mica was discovered deceased on April 27 in North Carolina's Lumber River State Park, with medical examiners attributing her death to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mica Miller and John-Paul Miller's postnuptial agreement
Court filings indicate that just days before her death, Mica had initiated legal proceedings to separate from her husband, serving him with separation papers on April 25, 2024.
This came after a prior attempt to dissolve their marriage, with Mica filing for divorce in October 2023, a case that was later dismissed in February 2024, suggesting a potential reconciliation effort.
Central to their legal proceedings was a postnuptial agreement signed by the couple in February 2023, outlining terms in the event of a divorce. Notably, both Mica and John-Paul waived their rights to seek alimony or separate support, and their shared residence, owned by the church where Mica worked as a creative director, was excluded from marital property.
The agreement also contained clauses prohibiting the couple from speaking negatively about Solid Rock Ministries, the church where John-Paul served as a pastor, and mandated confidentiality regarding their personal lives, reported Yahoo.
Mica Miller filed a restraining order against her husband
Further, records reveal a pattern of separation attempts, with John-Paul filing for separation in February 2024, a case subsequently dismissed in March 2024, followed by Mica's separation filing just weeks before her tragic death. In the wake of Mica's death, John-Paul confirmed her filing for divorce and described her longstanding struggles with mental illness, emphasizing her previous suicide attempts.
Yet, amidst the legal intricacies, disturbing allegations have surfaced. Court documents indicate that Mica had sought a restraining order against her husband prior to her death, alleging abuse and violence. Her sister, Sierra Francis, attested to Mica's fearfulness and concerns she expressed regarding her safety.
“I know my sister to have expressed the abuse and violence against her by her husband to others, including family members and members of the church congregation,” she said. The circumstances surrounding Mica's death remain under investigation by authorities in Robeson County, North Carolina, with her family and legal representatives advocating for a thorough examination of the events leading to her tragic end.
