ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN: Conservative influencer Liz Benichou was allegedly assaulted by a University of Michigan student during a campus event on Sunday, November 1, following a heated exchange over Islam, women's rights and religious freedom.

Benichou, a pro-Trump commentator, was speaking with students when she questioned whether a woman with a septum piercing would be able to dress the same way if she lived in Iran. Video footage of the confrontation showed the student shoving Benichou to the ground and kicking her.

The footage also showed the student attempting to approach Benichou again before a campus police officer intervened. The incident reportedly unfolded as the group was packing up after an event on campus.

Liz Benichou responds to alleged assault at University of Michigan

In a statement released on November 1, Liberty Under Fire USA said Benichou was physically assaulted at the University of Michigan during its tour stop. According to the organization, the incident happened before she could take her place at the event table.

A woman identified in the statement as a supporter of Abdul El-Sayed allegedly approached Benichou, struck her and tackled her to the ground.

The statement said law enforcement officers responded, detained the individual and placed her under arrest. It added that Benichou intended to pursue criminal charges.

The organization also shared a statement from Benichou, who said: “Today, I was physically assaulted simply for showing up and exercising my First Amendment rights. Political violence has NO place in the United States of America. I am incredibly grateful to the law enforcement officers who acted immediately to protect me. I am now in a safe location receiving care, and I am going to be okay. If the intention was to intimidate or silence me, it will not work.”

Benichou later posted on X, reassuring followers that she was okay. She wrote: “I’m okay. This is what happens when you dealing with leftist radicals THE LEFT IS MORE VIOLENT THAN THE RIGHT!”

The confrontation reportedly followed an earlier exchange involving signs questioning whether Islam was compatible with Western values. Footage showed the student challenging the message displayed on the signs before the interaction with Benichou escalated.

Taylor Sharp, Benichou's manager, told Mediaite that the influencer suffered a lower-back injury after being thrown to the ground.

Sharp also said Benichou intended to press charges against the student. However, the manager's account of her injury differed from the police statement, which said no injuries were reported.

The videos circulating online captured the physical confrontation and the moments leading up to police intervention.

The incident took place during an event involving conservative activists engaging with students on campus. It also raised questions about how disagreements over political and religious views can escalate during public discussions.
