WASHINGTON, DC: Just when it seemed like the Elon Musk-Donald Trump feud was finally cooling off, conspiracy theorists are wondering whether the whole thing was staged.

According to some online sleuths, the whole brawl might be fake. Social media is rife with claims that the clash over Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” was nothing more than a performance piece.

A few users even floated the idea that the duo cooked up the entire spectacle together while Musk was allegedly working from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in January.

Conspiracy theorists say Donald Trump and Elon Musk's feud was staged

According to QAnon influencers and other fringe theorists, Elon Musk and Donald Trump's spat is a strategic game meant to lure Democrats into calling for the release of the Epstein files.

Some even claimed the whole drama was “kayfabe,” a pro-wrestling term for staged rivalries.

A QAnon influencer who goes by “AwakenedOutlaw” and has over 300,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Smooth-brained folks who haven't been paying attention and don't understand that kayfabe is in play, actually believe Trump and Musk are fighting.”

Others thought this was some deep-level scheme. "Are Trump and Musk playing 5D chess?" a person asked.

Conspiracy theorist Liz Crokin claimed, “It would not surprise me if the Deep State created fake evidence falsely implicating Trump. If this is case, their scheme will fail and backfire. So grab your popcorn and watch the media and Democrats falsely report Trump is a pedophile and a sex trafficker—this boomerang will be epic! 5D chess at its finest, baby—checkmate!”

Someone else chimed in with, “This Trump v Elon is as fake as the WWE. If what Elon says was true, it would have come out long before now. And if it were true, why did Elon support Trump for the Nomination? 2 Ego’s / 1 Room = Ticking Time Enjoy the show.”

Another offered, "This wasn’t a feud. It was a covert PR operation to get the heat off Elon’s companies and manipulate the left into supporting everything they claimed to hate. You think Trump went on CNN for no reason? You think Elon "beefed" with Trump accidentally? LMAO. This was scripted. Trump & Elon just Jedi mind-tricked the left into helping MAGA — and they’re too smug to realize it."

Donald Trump and Elon Musk's bitter public fallout

The speculation came just days after things hit a boiling point between the SpaceX CEO and the president.

Musk publicly claimed that the Trump administration was sitting on the Jeffrey Epstein files, because Trump himself was named in them. Musk even shared a post calling for Trump’s impeachment and even slammed his tariff policy, warning of a coming recession.

Trump wasn’t about to let that slide. From the Oval Office, he called Musk a letdown and said he was “disappointed” in the Tesla founder. He subsequently threatened to yank Musk’s federal deals. “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Musk fired right back. “Go ahead, make my day,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). And then he dropped a bombshell. “In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately,” Musk wrote Thursday afternoon.

But he changed his mind a few hours later, after a user on X told him to “cool off and take a step back."

By the evening, things had settled into a strange but mellow place. One X user wrote, “This is a shame this back and forth. You are both better than this. Cool off and take a step back for a couple days.”

Musk replied, “Good advice. Ok we won’t decommission Dragon.”
