'Crazy Uncle Elon': Musk falls prey to name calling as 'annoyed' White House aides call for a drug test

WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk might be one of the most powerful men in tech, but he's apparently earned a not-so-flattering nickname in Trump-world: 'Crazy Uncle Elon'.
That’s the derogatory nickname with which some Trump administration officials have allegedly been calling the DOGE billionaire behind his back.
According to a fresh report from Rolling Stone, things behind the scenes have gotten seriously messy. The magazine dives into what White House insiders really think of the man who’s been working for the federal government since January.

One Trump official reportedly told Rolling Stone, “I have been in the same room with Elon, and he always tries to be funny. And he's not funny. Like, at all. He makes these jokes and little asides and smiles and then looks almost hurt if you don't lap up his humor.”
“I keep using the word 'annoying,'” the same official added. “A lot of people who have to deal with him do. But the word doesn't do the situation justice. Elon just thinks he's smarter than everyone else in the room and acts like it, even when it's clear he doesn't know what he's talking about.”
Marco Rubio vs Elon Musk
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to three sources, is not shy about how he feels about Musk.
Rolling Stone claims the former senator from Florida and one-time presidential hopeful “hasn't hidden his disdain for Musk” - and that it was some of his own staffers at the State Department who came up with the “Crazy Uncle Elon” moniker.
Things got heated in a Cabinet meeting last month, according to The New York Times. Musk tried to shame Rubio for not firing enough of his team. Rubio reportedly clapped back by asking if he should re-hire the folks who took voluntary retirement - just so he could fire them again and please Elon’s firing fantasy.
And then Musk axed the United States Agency for International Development, something Rubio had championed for years.

Another Trump official told the Rolling Stone piece, “Talking to the guy is sometimes like listening to really rusty nails on a chalkboard. He's just the most irritating person I've ever had to deal with, and that is saying something.”
Sources also told the magazine that some White House aides have walked out of meetings "and earnestly asked one another if they thought Musk was high."
Ketamine, chainsaws, and a side of pot
Musk has been very open about his use of prescription ketamine to treat depression.
“There are times when I have sort of a ... negative chemical state in my brain, like depression I guess, or depression that's not linked to any negative news, and ketamine is helpful for getting one out of the negative frame of mind," he shared in an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon last March.
The billionaire said he gets it from “an actual, real doctor” and uses “a small amount once every other week or something like that.”
But just two months before his chat with Lemon, The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk had taken quite the trip through a pharmacy of illicit substances - including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms at private parties. Of course, he’s famously smoked pot during an appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast.
According to Musk, however, he didn’t exactly nail the technique. “I don't know how to smoke pot,” he told Lemon.
One cannot forget his now-infamous chainsaw cameo at CPAC in February. Musk took the stage like a rockstar, sunglasses on and wielding a chainsaw (a gift from Argentina’s President Javier Milei), prompting plenty of speculation from the audience about whether he might’ve been under the influence, the Daily Mail reported.

It's worth noting that Musk holds multiple high-level government contracts through SpaceX, Tesla, and beyond. The Journal pointed out that drug use could potentially jeopardize those deals.
But Musk has been pushing for accountability, at least publicly. Now officially a “special government employee,” Musk has said drug tests would be a “great idea” for federal workers to undergo.
Meanwhile, his lawyer told Rolling Stone that Musk “is regularly and randomly drug-tested at SpaceX and has never failed a test.”
