Curtis Sliwa says Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding turned Manhattan into 'trendoids' playground
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's lavish July 3 wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden became one of the biggest celebrity events of the year, attracting several high-profile guests and widespread attention.
However, not everyone was impressed by the star-studded gathering. Former New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa criticized the celebration, claiming it turned Manhattan into a playground for "trendoids, jet-setters and freakazoids."
Curtis Sliwa criticizes impact of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding on Manhattan
The conversation began when a reporter asked Sliwa about the impact Swift and Kelce's wedding had on New York City, saying he was more interested in the event's effect on the city than on the couple's relationship.
Sliwa responded by criticizing the number of major events taking place in Manhattan and questioned why the couple chose the city for their celebration.
"Like, we didn't have enough, right? We didn't have enough kickball, World Cup. Who needed this?" Sliwa said.
"Then they had a buffet... a buffet? Why didn't they do this in Cleveland, Kansas City, the heartland of America? Why did they have to come to my city?"
The reporter defended the wedding venue, saying New York was convenient for guests, filled with celebrities, and that Swift's connection to the city and ability to pay for the event justified the choice.
Sliwa questions security measures at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding
Sliwa continued criticizing the event, arguing that the security arrangements affected police officers and local businesses.
"Let's say, billionaire Taylor Swift put money in the pocket of the other billionaire, Jimmy Dolan, Madison Square Garden." "What did it do for the cops, who had to sweat out there 12 hours a day with bulletproof vests? They were, like, so burning. You know what she gave the cops? She gave them buckets."
"Those are the peeps that represent in the streets. I saw it directly. They had to close down local businesses because they had a checkpoint job. They had a fraud center about four square blocks. That's not fair to them."
Sliwa also commented on Swift and Kelce's relationship, suggesting Kelce should take a stronger role.
"So, you know, Travis Kelse, he seems to be the mid guy, you know, the guy from the flyover area of America. Take charge of that relationship, right."
The reporter then questioned Sliwa's claim, asking who suggested that Kelce was not in charge of the relationship.

"Like what? He ain't wearing the pants tonight? Oh, come on!" Sliwa responded.
He continued, "If I were a boyfriend, yeah, now engaged or married to Taylor Swift. Why, why? Whole album dropped on my head, a diss album, like all of her many other boyfriends over there."
Sliwa later discussed the possibility of marriage challenges, saying, "50 of marriages end up in divorce. I know that personally, so please, I hope for the best, but I've seen a long list of boy toys in the past, man. They end up dismissed."
