DALLAS, TEXAS: The mother of the suspected ICE shooter Sharon Jahn had publicly criticized gun rights in fiery posts years before the recent tragedy.

Joshua Jahn, 29, was named as the gunman who opened fire on a field office in Texas, shooting three US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees before turning the gun on himself on Wednesday, September 24.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released to the public. Investigators also discovered a bullet near the suspected shooter with messages described as "anti-ICE in nature." The head of the FBI’s Dallas field office classified the incident as an act of "targeted violence."

The Department of Homeland Security also reported that the sniper began by firing randomly at the ICE building, then deliberately targeted the van holding the detainees. One photo released by the agency shows bullet holes piercing a framed American flag that had been hanging on an office wall.

Years before the recent attack, Joshua Jahn’s mother, Sharon Jahn, voiced strong criticism of Republican lawmakers for their stance on gun laws in Texas. In a series of Facebook posts, she condemned the lack of firearm restrictions and expressed outrage following the 2022 Uvalde school shooting that left 21 people dead.

In a lengthy letter addressed to Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, as well as Governor Greg Abbott, Sharon held them responsible for the tragedy. How does it make you feel that your action to open up gun laws is responsible for the killing of 21 more people?” she wrote the day after the shooting. “Do you secretly sit in front of a TV and smile a demented smile?”

She went on to accuse the officials of accepting "precious blood money" from gun lobbyists and called on them to stand up to the National Rifle Association. “Why have our government officials failed us? Their lust for money and power,” she wrote. “It’s time we vote out spineless tools and bring in people who actually care about others.”

That same day, she also criticized a tweet from Governor Abbott in which he highlighted his A rating from the NRA. “Governor Abbott, you’re so proud of that NRA rating, aren’t you?” she commented. Just two days later, Sharon shared lyrics from the song 'If We Only Have Love, writing': “If we only have love. We can melt all the guns. And give the new world. To our daughters and sons.”

According to his brother, Noah Jahn, Joshua was not known to be particularly political. “He didn't have strong feelings about ICE as far as I knew,” Noah told NBC News.

He also confirmed that their family owned a rifle and that Joshua knew how to use it, though he added that his brother wasn’t a good shot.
