WASHINGTON, DC: Judge Juan Merchan, who is in charge of the New York hush-money case involving Donald Trump, was described as a "pro" and a "pleasure" to work with by former Trump attorney William Brennan, as per The Hill.

Notably, before and during the hush money trial, Trump repeatedly attacked Merchan, accusing him of overseeing an unjust process. In sharp contrast to Trump's remarks, Brennan praised the judge on Monday, May 6, during an interview on Fox News 'America Reports'.

In his remarks on Monday, Brennan referred to both Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Joshua Steinglass as 'pros'. He said, "As a lawyer who’s been knocking around this country for three and a half decades trying criminal cases, a pleasure to work in front of him."

He added, "And frankly, that prosecution team, a number of those people, Steinglass was one, our case. He’s a pro. It’s just so much easier when the judge is a pro and the prosecution team are professionals."

Brennan, a former lawyer for the Trump payroll organization, defended the former president during the second attempt to remove him from office. Earlier in the conversation, he added, Merchan handled him 'very well' while debating a prior payroll tax matter.

Brennan said on Fox News, "I’m not the president’s lawyer in this case. I’ve had the opportunity to represent the president in his second impeachment and in a payroll tax case before this judge. But my personal opinion of Judge Merchan, he treated me very well."

He added, "He was a gentleman, he is smart, he works hard, and I really don’t — it’s above my pay grade to get into political issues. I have no political agenda."

Notably, regarding payments made to his former fixer, Michael Cohen, for paying adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair, Trump is accused of 34 counts of falsifying company documents. The former president has refuted the scandal and any misconduct.

In the course of the lawsuit, Trump has repeatedly attacked Merchan, calling the judge 'crooked' and condemning him for placing a gag order on him prior to the start of the trial.

Before the trial, Merchan had imposed a gag order on Trump, prohibiting him from making disparaging remarks about the judge's family, prosecutors, witnesses, juries, or court employees. Despite the gag order, Trump can criticize Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump has now broken the gag order 10 times, according to Merchan, who also issued a warning that more violations would land the former president in jail. Trump now owes $10,000 in fines for all of his offenses.
