Dolly Parton, legendary singer and global icon, dies peacefully at 80

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Global icon and Hollywood legend, Dolly Parton, also a renowned country music singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist whose career spanned seven decades, has died at 80.

Parton died peacefully in Nashville, according to a statement shared by her family. Known for her distinctive voice, sparkling style, wit and heartfelt songwriting, she became one of the most recognizable figures in entertainment.

Tributes from across the worlds are pouring in as stars,politicians and fans pay tribute to Parton.

Dolly Parton, country music icon and humanitarian, dies at 80

According to Dolly Parton’s official X page, a lengthy post was shared on Wednesday, August 26, featuring a black-and-white image of the singer with the words “Always with you” and her signature written across the image. The lengthy note reflects on the iconic figure she was, her marriage to her husband, and her remarkable life and legacy.

The third paragraph of the statement reads: “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family.”



"Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact," it continues.

"At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging  @DollyParton or by leaving a message at http://dollyparton.com "       

At the end of the statement, it reads, "In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at http://imaginationlibrary.com."

Dolly Parton remained focused on work amid health struggles

Parton had previously canceled an appearance at her Dollywood theme park, joining the opening ceremony for the new NightFlight Expedition roller coaster virtually after a Nashville doctor advised her not to travel because of ongoing “health issues.” During the virtual appearance, she told the crowd that she had been experiencing dizziness and dehydration.

She had reportedly been dealing with various health issues for nearly a year, including kidney stones, an infection, dizziness and dehydration. Her health struggles had also contributed to the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency.

“I’m still in Nashville, and I’m sorry about that,” Parton shared during the virtual appearance, adding, “I’m supposed to be there in person, like we planned.” Wearing fairy wings, she explained that she had previously told fans about having “a few little health issues.”

A couple of days back, Parton indicated that she was recovering, “Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’,” she said.
