Dolly Parton’s sister Stella urges fans to ‘show more compassion’ after singer’s death
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Dolly Parton’s sister, Stella Parton, has opened up about the love and "insensitivity from strangers" she has experienced following her sister's death last month.
The 77-year-old singer-songwriter shared an Instagram post on Friday, September 4. Stella encouraged fans to use her older sister as an example and "show more compassion" toward others during this difficult time.

Stella shared a post that read, "First let me say, thank you to the ones of you who have shown 'genuine' support and love during this time of our family bereavement," Stella began. "We will be okay in time, but each of us will grieve in our own personal way. Every human being experiences pain and loss in life, and my family is no different."
She continued, "Sadly, because of the way our lives have been lived in front of the public, we have no choice but to be subjected to incredible pressure and insensitivity from strangers."
In fact, the 'I Want to Hold You in My Dreams Tonight' singer wrote that her sister would "be surprised and delighted by the love her family and she has been shown" recently, too.
"She loved her fans and the public in general. That is the reason she chose not to express her opinions on a lot of things like politics, religion, and individuals in the public eye," Stella stated. "She knew as well as anyone what a negative vortex that could turn into, which is nothing but a huge waste of positive energy."
Stella shared that her older sister always "used her music as a tool and a passion to move people in a positive way" rather than bringing them down. Stella has also "experienced many of the same slights and insults" throughout her life, including "through this recent loss in our lives.”
"Finally, I ask that you show more compassion and wisdom as we move forward in life," Stella wrote. "Use my sister's life as an example for tolerance and respect toward others. It's not about the most clever comments, fake AI garbage, or snarky tweets."
She continued, "At the end of the day or the end of a life, how will you feel about yourself? It's not about what other individuals you will never meet think of you!"
"That being said, I've always embraced my own personality and will continue to be myself and express my opinions as I deem appropriate, regardless of what anyone thinks of me. It's my right as a human being!" she wrote. "Have a happy and safe weekend."

Parton's death sent shockwaves across Hollywood. The 80-year-old singer died following a "brief battle with cancer," according to her representative.
