WASHINGTON, DC: It didn’t take long for the Trumps to weigh in after news broke that former president Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive and metastatic form of prostate cancer.

President Donald Trump had a unifying message on Sunday, May 18, as he hopped on Truth Social to release a joint statement with first lady Melania Trump.

"Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery," Trump posted on Truth Social.

His son Donald Trump Jr appeared to echo that same sentiment — at least initially — by reposting a screenshot that included the message, “Politics aside, we wish [President Biden] a speedy recovery,” before adding, “Agreed 100%.”

Donald Trump Jr takes a U-turn just hours later

Roughly three hours after that first post, Donald Trump Jr made a hard and rather cynical pivot. This time, he shared a theory that Biden’s cancer may not be a new diagnosis at all.

He reposted a message that questioned whether Biden’s aggressive illness could’ve gone unnoticed during his presidency, Mediaite reported.

The post came from Dr Steven Quay, CEO of Atossa Genetics. “Prostate cancer is the easiest cancer to diagnose when it first starts and to watch it progress to bone metastases. The PSA blood test shows the rate of cancer cell growth. For even with the most aggressive form, it is a 5-7 year journey without treatment before it becomes metastatic," he wrote.

Dr Quay added, “Meaning, it would be malpractice for this patient to show up and be first diagnosed with metastatic disease in May 2025. It is highly likely he was carrying a diagnosis of prostate cancer throughout his White House tenure, and the American people were uninformed.”

Trump Jr sarcastically dragged Jill Biden into the mix. “What I want to know is how did Dr. Jill Biden miss stage five metastatic cancer, or is this yet another coverup???” he asked.

Donald Trump Jr slammed on social media for 'shallow' comment about Biden's cancer

Critics on social media could not let that jab slide, with many slamming Donald Trump Jr for his insensitive and "shallow" remark.

"Probably because she's a Dr of Education and not an MD you f***ing imbecile!" one user wrote on X in response.

"There’s generally no stage five cancer. It is stage four. prostate cancer is often referred to as a 'silent killer' it is not unusual for someone to not realize it until it is too late," another insisted.

"You really should have paid a little attention in school," someone else wrote.

"Don Jr.’s comment is pure filth. Mocking a man’s cancer and blaming his wife, who’s not even a medical doctor, shows just how low and shallow he is. 'Stage five'? It's Grade Group 5, bonehead. This isn’t politics. It’s cruelty. Ugly, dumb, and vile. Nothing else to call it," a comment read.

"Insulting someone only reflects poorly on yourself. Take a moment to breathe, reflect, and choose kindness over hostility," one person added.

Official statement sparks more questions than comfort

While Donald Trump Jr was rebuked for his insensitivity, his questions echoed louder within MAGA circles. Some on the right are now wondering whether Biden’s condition was hidden from the public until after the 2024 election cycle.

The official statement painted a rather dire picture. “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone," it read.

The statement added, “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”

But that hasn’t satisfied some conservatives, who are now calling for more transparency.
