Donald Trump criticizes 'highly overrated' Bill Maher and warns Republicans from viewing his 'dead' show
WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump launched a verbal attack on Bill Maher, labeling him "highly overrated" and declaring his late-night show is "dead."
The former president's comments come shortly after Maher hosted the former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) and former Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-III) on 'Real Time'.
The trio discussed the potential implications of a second Trump presidency and the multiple legal charges against him, according to The Hill.
Donald Trump slams Bill Maher's late-night show
In his Truth Social post on Saturday, June 22, Trump said, “Bill Maher, the highly overrated ‘Star’ of the ratings challenged show with the Fake, Loud and Obnoxious laughter pouring out of your set every few seconds, even when nothing was said that was funny (which is most of the time!), suffers from a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, sometimes referred to as TDS."
In their discussion, Cuomo and Maher opined that the hush money case against Trump was misguided and politicized the justice system, inadvertently aiding his election campaign.
Maher argued that the focus should have been on Trump's alleged election interference.
On Friday evening, June 21, Maher said, “If they had just heard the one about trying to overthrow the government of the United States. That’s the main thing! He tried to overthrow the government of the United States! And we’re never going to hear that."
Cuomo commended Kinzinger for his work on the House Select Committee to investigate the attack on the United States Capitol, with Kinzinger having distanced himself from Trump and the GOP after the January 6 attack.
Donald Trump's warning to Republicans
Following Maher's show, Trump issued a warning to fellow Republicans, advising them to avoid engaging with Maher and his show.
“Republicans should stop using him as a reference point, his show is dead!” the 77-year-old politician wrote.
Bill Maher's criticism from both parties
In recent months, Maher has faced backlash from both parties, particularly for his views on the 2024 election.
During a May interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Maher stated that the “left has changed" in its stance on various issues, including gender, race, free speech, communism, border control, and police abolition.
“No, it’s not that I’ve gotten old, it’s that your ideas are stupid,” said Maher.
The comedian recently said that President Joe Biden was “going to f*****g lose” the November election, suggesting that Trump could potentially garner enough support to win the race.
This criticism of both parties comes as Maher pledged in March to do everything in his power to prevent a Trump reelection.
