WASHINGTON, DC: The head of the house panel probing the COVID-19 pandemic announced on Friday, April 26, that Andrew Cuomo, the former Democratic governor of New York, has agreed to testify before a group of House members regarding his administration's controversial handling of the COVID-19 outbreak in nursing facilities, according to the New York Post.

Rep Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) stated to CNN's Jake Tapper that Governor Cuomo is scheduled to appear before our select Subcommittee on the Pandemic on June 11th.

Wenstrup continued, noting that Cuomo's testimony would be conducted privately, stating, "This will be a transcribed interview at 10 am."

More than a month after receiving a subpoena for his appearance, Cuomo has agreed to testify before the Republican-led House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Amidst a flurry of controversies, including the alleged cover-up of COVID-19 fatalities in nursing homes in New York, the three-term Democrat resigned in 2021.

The ex-governor refutes claims that his administration's March 2020 policy, requiring care facilities to admit COVID-19 positive patients, led to more deaths.

However, a recent report by the New York comptroller reveals that Cuomo had significantly underreported these fatalities by over 50%, misleading the public.

Remarkably, research conducted by The Empire Center suggests that Cuomo's order may have contributed to an additional 1,000 nursing facility deaths.

Wenstrup told Tapper, "I’m trying to learn why he would do something like this. As a doctor who has treated infections, it goes against all medical common sense to take someone who was highly contagious and put them amongst the most vulnerable."

When his committee initially reached out to Cuomo nearly nine months ago, as stated by Wenstrup, the former governor "disregarded many of our requests."

A spokesperson for the former governor challenged Wenstrup's assertion. Rich Azzopardi, representing Cuomo, stated, "This isn't breaking news; we agreed to this months ago."

Azzopardi added, "This is pure politics and simple fact remains that this issue has been reviewed three times by the Department of Justice under Trump and Biden, as well as Congress and the Manhattan District Attorney who found no there there. Any real review would focus on the 10 other states with similar policies, red and blue alike."

Furthermore, the House panel announced that Dr Anthony Fauci has agreed to testify regarding the origins of the pandemic and the government's response. His testimony is set for June 3rd.

Numerous individuals on the internet criticized Andrew Cuomo for agreeing to testify before a group of House members regarding his administration's controversial handling of the COVID-19 outbreak in nursing facilities.

A user wrote on X, "Lock him up with Fauci," while one added, "My governor and about 3 others should be up there with him, but especially my governor."

A person also wrote, "He murdered thousands by putting the sick in retirement homes. I really doubt anything comes of it, the people 'questioning' him are the ones who ordered him to do it to bolster the death count," whereas one mentioned, "This guy is all kinds of corrupt it’s crazy…lol how do these ones stay free??"

A user said, "I wonder if he'll transfer his storytelling skills from the governor's office to Congress."
