MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Former President Donald Trump made a strong appeal to Nevada voters during his keynote address at the Republican National Convention, indicating his intent to win the battleground state he previously lost in 2016 and 2020.

He said, "At the center of our plan for economic relief — our massive tax cuts for workers that include something else that's turned out to be very popular, actually, here. It's very popular in this building and all those hotels that I saw are so nice. I'm staying in a nice one. It's called 'no tax on tips.'"

These comments came as Trump formally accepted the Republican presidential nomination on Thursday, July 18, the final night of the RNC.

Donald Trump says 'no tax on tips' proposal was inspired by a Nevada waitress

Donald Trump shared that the inspiration for the "no tax on tips" idea came from a conversation with a waitress in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He recounted, "And I got that by having dinner recently in Nevada, where we’re leading by about 14 points. The government's after me all the time on tips." Trump shared that when he asked her if she'd be happy to have no taxes taken from her tips, she said, "What a great idea," as per Fox News.

"Waitresses and caddies and drivers and everybody — it's a large, large group of people that are being really hurt badly," further noted the former president, stressing, "They make money. Let them keep their money."

Trump first introduced the idea as part of his campaign in June and has since promoted it extensively, including during a meeting with Senate Republicans who are aiming to secure a majority in November.

"What I think President Trump did sell us all on is don't tax tips," said Sen Ron Johnson (R-WI). Sen Josh Hawley (R-MO) added, "He thinks it's a great example of how working people in this economy just can't get ahead."

Nevada's tourism-driven economy could see big changes with Donald Trump's 'no tax on tips' proposal

With its economy heavily reliant on the tourism industry, particularly in Las Vegas, Nevada could see a significant impact from the "no tax on tips" proposal.

Trump was defeated in Nevada in both 2016 and 2020, but the outlook appears more favorable for the upcoming general election.

A June Fox News Poll showed Trump leading Joe Biden by five percentage points in the state, 50% to 45%. The poll was conducted before the presidential debate and the attempted assassination on Trump.

During his speech on Thursday, Trump also acknowledged the Republican Senate candidate in Nevada, former US Army Captain Sam Brown, who was severely injured while deployed in Afghanistan. "And, by the way, we have a man in this room who is running for the US Senate from a great state, Nevada, named Sam Brown, who paid the ultimate price," noted Trump.

With growing uncertainty about Biden's candidacy, some analysts predict he could become a liability for down-ballot Democrats, including those in Nevada. This could provide an opportunity for Trump, Brown, and other Republicans to turn Nevada red in the upcoming election.

Netizens optimistic about Donald Trump's chances in Nevada

While Donald Trump may have lost Nevada to Democrat candidates in the past, netizens were sure he would be able to flip the battleground state in the upcoming election.

One declared, "This time DT will win Nevada," and another said, "He will do it."

"He needs to target Minnesota," expressed a person, while someone else noted, "You ain’t losing anymore Trump."

"Nevada join us to MAGA," appealed an individual.
