WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump sparked online rage as he launched a furious attack on Robert De Niro after the acclaimed actor bashed him during an award speech.

The two-time Oscar-winning star reportedly called Trump a "charlatan" while accepting the Gotham Historical Icon and Creator Tribute award for Martin Scorsese’s 'Killers of the Flower Moon' in New York City on Monday, November 27.

The 'Taxi Driver' actor also accused show organizers of editing his speech to cut out remarks trashing the 45th president.

"The beginning of my speech was edited, cut out, I didn’t know about it. And I want to read it," said De Niro, pulling out his phone and reading his remarks as prepared for delivery.

He claimed, "History isn’t history anymore. Truth is not truth. Even facts are being replaced by alternative facts and driven by conspiracy theories and ugliness."

De Niro stated that during his four years in Office, Trump has "lied to us more than 30,000 times" and that he "attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature, and shows disrespect."

"He’s keeping up the pace in his current campaign of retribution, but with all his lies, he can’t hide his soul," noted the revered actor, as per Daily Beast.

Donald Trump retorts to Robert De Niro’s remarks

Donald Trump addressed Robert De Niro’s comments in a Truth Social post where he described him as an actor "whose acting talents have greatly diminished, with his reputation now shot, must even use a teleprompter for his foul and disgusting language, so disrespectful to our Country."

"He has become unwatchable both in movies and with the FOOLS that destroyed the Academy Awards, bringing them from one of the top shows in the Country to a low-rated afterthought. De Niro should focus on his life, which is a mess, rather than the lives of others," seethed the ex-POTUS.

Trump continued his attacks on Monday, December 4, when he wrote, "Robert De Niro is a ‘mental midget’ whose mind is shot, and whose life is a total train wreck."

He added, "Very much like Crooked Joe Biden, he can’t put two sentences together. The good news is that this crude and very stupid ‘animal’ has lost all credibility!"

Internet slams Donald Trump over his reply to Robert De Niro's remarks

Soon after Donald Trump's Truth Social posts about Robert De Niro surfaced, netizens were quick to bash the former President.

One noted, "De Niro is a national treasure. Trump is a national disgrace 😐," while another added, "Sadly Thrump is talking about himself …again 🥴🥴."

Someone quipped, "Donald Trump giving "Life Advice"?" and a person said, "It sounds like he’s describing himself! De Niro is an American treasure. Trump is an American traitor."

A disgruntled netizen claimed, "Donald J Trump who always has profited from standing on the shoulders of others, continues to feel the need to denigrate all those who attempt to put trump in his place."

"DeNiro should add his name to the many lawsuits against trump. Defamation of character to start," noted one more.
