'Hiring a criminal': Internet ridicules Donald Trump after he vows to rehire former adviser Peter Navarro if reelected

WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump announced he would "absolutely" have his former White House adviser Peter Navarro back if reelected in the upcoming presidential election despite his prison sentence.

"I would absolutely have Peter back. This outrageous behavior by the Democrats should not have happened,” the former president told The Wall Street Journal.


Peter Navarro says he does not want a pardon from Donald Trump if reelected

Following Navarro's refusal to comply with a congressional subpoena related to the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, he was sentenced to four months in prison.

In March, the former Trump aide who is two months into his sentence reported to a federal prison in Miami.

Navarro has expressed that he does not want a pardon from Trump should he return to the White House.

He hopes the Supreme Court will overturn his conviction, having had his request being denied twice.

In his email to the outlet from prison, Navarro wrote, “I will not give the Supreme Court any excuse to duck what is otherwise a landmark constitutional case regarding the separation of power and executive privilege."

Peter Navarro says he has 'no regrets'

In 2023, Navarro was convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress.

He was charged for failing to produce documents related to the Capitol attack and also for skipping his deposition before the select House committee investigating the events.

The 74-year-old economist revealed that he has “no regrets” because he “didn’t choose this fight, this fight chose me.”

When will Peter Navarro be released from prison?

Navarro, who will be turning 75 on July 15, is scheduled for release from prison on July 17.

Upon his release, he plans to travel to Milwaukee for a signing session for his book 'The New MAGA Deal: The Unofficial Deplorables Guide to Donald Trump’s 2024 Policy Platform.'

The book aims to outline Trump's potential second-term policies in a second term.

Donald Trump slammed for vowing to rehire Peter Navarro if reelected

Reacting to Trump's announcement he would rehire Navarro if reelected, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "Just like a mob boss would welcome back his capos after serving jail time who didn't squeal."



 

"Of course, he will place as many criminals as he can," a user tweeted while another user commented, "That 'if' is doing a lot of heavy lifting."
