HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FLORIDA: A Florida man was taken into custody following two separate hit-and-run incidents, one of which resulted in the death of a student at Bartow High School as the man was escaping the scene of the first incident.

The Lakeland Ledger stated that Edgardo Joel Rosado Perez, 41, was accused of fleeing the hit-and-run scene of a fatal collision.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, on Wednesday, March 27, just before 7 a.m., Perez dropped his 18-year-old daughter off at school and got into a small collision with a Chevy SUV.

He left the scene and drove quickly down Jackson Street, striking an 18-year-old student who was crossing the street to go to school.

Perez left the student to die on the street after fleeing the scene once more. Later on, the troopers located Perez's 2018 Hyundai sedan parked in his garage at his South Lakeland residence.

Meanwhile, Perez had departed in a 2017 Ford Fiesta that was blue. Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office later discovered the Fiesta at Brandon Mall and discovered Perez inside.

Perez is presently incarcerated in Hillsborough County; on Monday, April 1, a judge is expected to consider whether or not to move him to Polk County.

When a reporter visited Perez's house on Wednesday morning, they observed the Hyundai facing outward while parked in the garage.

The car's windshield was smashed, with a sizable hole on the driver's side, and the front end and hood had severe dents. The reporter was asked not to take any photos by the on-site troopers, as reported by Crime Online.

On Wednesday, Polk County Public Schools announced that counselors were present on campus all day and that a student had died in a traffic accident.

According to family members, the teen is Zachariah Clabough, and three years ago, a drunk driver struck and killed his father, WTSP reported.

“I can’t believe that we’re having to do it all over again,” Clabough’s sister, Dakota Runyon, said. “The man just got sentenced back in December for killing my dad. And now it’s March and I lose my brother? It’s just so hard.”

“He was such a sweet kid,” she added. “A lot of people say that about their family and their brothers, but he was just such a sweet kid. He was very loved.”
