Ella Langley calls off Tulsa concert over ‘security threat’, police say was likely swatting
TULSA, OKLAHOMA: Country music star Ella Langley cancelled her Tulsa concert at the last minute, citing a “serious security threat”.
The 27-year-old singer was scheduled to perform at the Bank of Oklahoma Center in Tulsa on Friday, October 9, night.
Ella Langley says fans' safety 'will always mean more to me'
In a statement posted on her Instagram account, she wrote, “Due to a serious security threat involving the safety of my fans, the venue staff, and my team, the incredibly difficult decision was made to cancel tonight’s show. This decision was made under the advice of local authorities, the venue, and my security team.”
Langley noted that she understands how disappointing it will be for her fans before adding that she’s really sorry.
“This is not a decision that was made lightly. I was so looking forward to spending tonight with you, but your safety will always mean more to me than anything else. I refuse to put anyone in harm’s way,” the ‘Weren't for the Wind’ hitmaker explained.
The Bank of Oklahoma Center apologizes after concert cancellation
The Bank of Oklahoma Center (BOK) also issued a statement on Facebook, mentioning the security concerns.
It read, “We understand the disappointment this news brings and apologize to fans who planned to attend. The safety of fans is our foremost concern and will always come first.”
“Additional information and details regarding ticket refunds will be shared as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of all involved,” the statement added.
Tulsa Police Department claims they 'found no credible threat to the event'
But later, the Tulsa Police Department denied any such threat.
Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg, in a video posted on Facebook, said, “As with any large event, the Tulsa Police Department goes to great lengths to ensure that it is safe for event goers and those coming to perform. Before the event, we swept the area with our K-9, Bomb Team, Patrol, and BOK security for anything dangerous. We did not find anything.”
He continued that “a call was made threatening the lives of people attending the event”, and his team again searched the area.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we swept the building and surrounding area and again found no credible threat to the event's safety. We advised the performer's staff that we found no credible threat to the event, but they decided to cancel the performance anyway,” Meulenberg added.
