WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the debates surrounding President Donald Trump’s controversial SAVE America Act, a rumor began circulating on social media claiming that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said that his years in Congress would end if the act is passed. The claim has sparked mockery and criticism against the Senator, requiring a fact-check.

According to a viral post that surfaced on X, Sanders said, “My 35 years in Congress will come to an end if the Save America Act is passed.”

The post was accompanied by an AI video of Sanders making the alleged statement that has garnered tens of thousands of views as of this writing.

Although the video is an obvious AI, many appear to believe the remark to be authentic, while others are skeptical and call for a fact-check.

Fact Check: Bernie Sanders made no such remark

Although the independent Senator has been an active critic of the controversial act, there is no evidence of him saying that his years in Congress would end if the bill is passed. Hence, the claim is rated as false.

There are no public remarks, statements, or official announcements from Sanders or his office in which such a remark was made.

Moreover, the claim originated from a conservative X account, which, though not explicitly a parody account, has posted several fake and unverified claims, likely intended as satire.

If the claim was true, given the controversial nature of the act, prominent news media outlets would have widely reported it; however, no such reports exist as of this writing.

A fact check by Grok confirmed, “No primary evidence confirms Bernie Sanders said the SAVE America Act would end his 35 years in Congress. The claim spread on X and partisan sites without transcripts, videos, or official records.

In March this year, Sanders took aim at the Trump-backed act, warning that it could “disenfranchise tens of millions” of Americans if it becomes a law.

"Trump and his friends are in political trouble. Their response? Make it harder for you to vote and disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans," Sanders wrote in a post on X.

"Trump said it out loud: If they pass the SAVE Act, Republicans will 'never lose a race for 50 years.' Vote NO."
