WASHINGTON, DC: Following President Donald Trump's July 3 speech, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that former President Bill Clinton criticized Trump's address at Mount Rushmore in his recent speech. The video has triggered criticism against the former president, prompting a fact-check of the claim.

Claim: Bill Clinton criticized Donald Trump's July 3 speech

The claim surfaced in the form of a video, showing a 19-minute clip purportedly featuring a recording of Clinton while responding to Trump's address at Mount Rushmore on July 3.

The narration over a still image of Clinton states, “You know, there are certain moments in the life of a country where what's said matters less than where it's said and why."

"Last night, on the eve of America's 250th birthday, President Trump stood beneath the granite faces of four presidents at Mount Rushmore and delivered a speech that, on its surface, was supposed to celebrate our founding. And parts of it did.”

“But if you listen carefully, really carefully, what you heard wasn't just a celebration. It was something else entirely. And I want to walk through it with you tonight because I think what happened at that mountain deserves more than a headline. It deserves a conversation.”

“Now, let me start by giving credit where it's due. The setting was extraordinary. Mount Rushmore is one of the most powerful symbols of American democracy on the planet.”

The alleged speech went on to criticize Trump's characterization of communism, his call to eliminate the Senate filibuster, and his statement that passing the SAVE America Act would prevent Republicans from losing an election for 100 years.

Fact Check: Fake, Bill Clinton made no such lengthy speech

However, the speech is fake, as the Democrat never made such an address. A reverse image search for the still image in the video yielded no relevant results.

A search on Google for the phrase "Bill Clinton response to Trump's Mount Rushmore speech July 2026" and passages from the alleged speech showed no results that support the claim.

If Clinton had given such a lengthy speech, prominent news media outlets would have reported it, but no such reports or records exist.

Although the speech is fake, Clinton shared a written statement on X about the United States' 250th anniversary (@BillClinton/X)

Additionally, the audio that paired with Clinton’s image was generated using Artificial Intelligence. A YouTube video that shared the speech originally carried an AI-content warning, and a voice detector classified the sampled audio as a likely deepfake.

Although the speech is fake, Clinton shared a written statement on X about the United States' 250th anniversary, not a nearly 19-minute recorded response to Trump's Mount Rushmore address.
