Fact Check: Did Bruce Springsteen apologize to fans for being too politically vocal?

COLTS NECK, NEW JERSEY: A social media post claims that popular singer Bruce Springsteen has apologized to his fans for bringing his personal politics to the stage. The claim has triggered strong reactions from fans, with many supporting him while others criticized him, prompting a fact-check.

Claim: Bruce Springsteen apologized to fans for being political 

The claim surfaced on X, according to which the Grammy Award-winning singer sent out a heartfelt apology to his fans, only to find out it was far too little and way too late.

“I’d like to apologize for bringing my personal politics to the stage,” Springsteen allegedly said in a statement. “I’d like the chance to start again.” 

The post also states that, in a poll from the New York and New Jersey area, only 25 percent of Springsteen fans still hold a favorable view of him. 

The post has drawn more than a hundred thousand views as of this writing, with many appearing to support the artist while a few others slammed him, indicating that many believed the claim to be true, while a few others called for a fact check.

Fact Check: Bruce Springsteen issued no such apology

However, the claim is false, as Springsteen has not issued any public apology to his fans for bringing politics to the stage.

There are no official statements, press releases, or social media posts from the 76-year-old that support the claim. Also, the claim that a poll from New York shows only 25 percent of his fans still hold a favorable view of him is baseless.

If the singer had really issued an apology to his fans, prominent news and entertainment media outlets would have widely covered it, making headlines given his long-running feud with President Donald Trump.

Bruce Springsteen's feud with Donald Trump

In July, during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, Trump reignited his feud with Springsteen, mocking the rock star's appearance before complaining that his recent concerts had become too political. 

"What the hell happened to that guy?" Trump joked. "The tour has been renamed 'Bored in the USA,'" Trump said, drawing laughs from the crowd. 

Even before Trump’s return to the White House, the rock icon has backed Democratic candidates and used his concerts as a platform to voice concerns about the country’s direction, including criticism of the Trump administration.

In recent months, he has intensified his mixing of music with political commentary, delivering pointed speeches against the administration while performing on stage.
