Fact Check: Did Dems set up 'Trump Dump Detector' ahead of Trump's State of the Union address?
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump is set to give the first State of the Union speech of his second term on Tuesday, February 24, where the POTUS could try to reset his political agenda ahead of the midterm elections this November.
As Trump is all set, a rumor circulated across social media talking about a 'Trump Dump Detector'. The viral post suggests that Democrats have set up a thermal camera for the SOTU speech. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.
Claim: Dems set up 'Trump Dump Detector' ahead of Trump's SOTU address
X account @HalfwayPost came up with a post that read, "BREAKING: Several House Democrats have set up a thermal camera for the SOTU speech tonight that will broadcast live on a YouTube channel called 'The Trump Dump Detector,' so Americans can have 'full fecal transparency' and see if he poops himself."
The account made another post that read, "BREAKING: Donald Trump is reportedly 'raving mad' that Democrats will be broadcasting a live feed of his SOTU speech tonight from a thermal camera that shows if he poops himself, and is furious that this 'Trump Dump Detector' could get more viewers than the regular broadcast."
Interestingly, the POTUS said over the weekend, "It's going to be a long speech because we have so much to talk about."
As per White House officials, Trump will lay out his plans for Iran during his State of the Union address to Congress. He is delivering his annual SOTU speech amid deep political divisions and sweeping policy changes across the US.
Fact Check: False, the post originated as a satire
The claims made in the online posts are false, as there is no 'Trump Dump Detector' set up by Democrats. The post originated from X account @HalfwayPost, which is a self-proclaimed 'halfway true comedy and satire' account.
Moreover, there is no such announcement by the Democrats or the Trump administration. If the rumor were true, there would have been an announcement regarding it, and several news outlets would have covered it.
Talking about the SOTU speech, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the POTUS will argue that Republicans are best suited to continue tackling the public's concerns about the cost of living.
She told reporters at the White House, "The president's going to make the case that three more years with him in the White House and with Republicans on Capitol Hill, we can finally achieve the American dream in this country again that we had in his first term, but was lost because of Joe Biden and the Democrats over the past four years."
Leavitt added that Trump will highlight what the White House calls record-setting accomplishments over the past year, while also setting out a forward-looking agenda aimed at making the American dream 'more attainable and affordable for working-class people across the country.'
