Fact Check: Did Denzel Washington praise Donald Trump in viral quote?
WASHINGTON, DC: A viral social media meme falsely attributed a glowing endorsement of President Donald Trump to Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington. The claim has sparked speculation and calls for a fact-check.
Claim: Denzel Washington praises Donald Trump

The meme shows Washington in a dark suit next to a circular photo of Trump. It claims the actor considers the president exceptionally brave, intelligent, and devoted to America.
“I've worked with a lot of people in my life, and I've never met anyone braver, smarter, or who cares more about America than Donald Trump,” the alleged quote reads.
It continues: “He's a great friend and an even better president. I'm proud to be a steadfast supporter, and I'll never apologize for it. God Bless America and our president.”
The statement has circulated on social media platforms, including Facebook, Threads, and X, for several months, garnering millions of views. While some users accepted the quote as authentic, others questioned whether Washington had actually expressed such support for Trump.
Fact-Check: False, no evidence supports the alleged endorsement

No credible evidence shows Washington made the statement, and an actor's representative confirmed the quote is not genuine.
Searches across Bing, Google, and Yahoo also failed to identify reliable sources documenting the alleged endorsement.
Searches of major US news outlets, including ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, NBC News, and NewsNation, also did not confirm the claim.
Given Washington's international prominence, a public endorsement of Trump in such emphatic terms would likely have attracted considerable media attention. However, no credible reporting supports the attribution.
The investigation also found that the identical quote had previously been falsely attributed to actor Matthew McConaughey and musician Mick Jagger.
Trump's social media post revives the rumor

The claim gained further attention on October 12, when Trump shared a screenshot of a social media post containing the alleged endorsement on his Truth Social account.
The Washington Post also reported on Trump's amplification of the rumor. According to the newspaper, Alan Nierob, president of PMK Entertainment, which represents Washington, confirmed that the quote was “Not real.”
This confirmation directly contradicts the viral meme's suggestion that Washington publicly praised Trump in those words.
