Fact Check: Did George Soros secretly pay Barack Obama to run Biden’s government?

WASHINGTON, DC: A rumor has been circulating on social media platforms claiming that George Soros paid former President Barack Obama millions of dollars to run the government in 2022, as Joe Biden was allegedly mentally unfit, indicating that Obama was secretly running the government.

Let us analyse the viral rumors and fact-check the claim.

Claim: George Soros paid Barack Obama to secretly run Joe Biden's government 

The post claims that Soros secretly paid Obama $1.6 million every month to effectively run the US government because Biden was allegedly mentally unfit. 

According to the viral claim, Soros Family Trust funneled the money every single month from June 2023 through January 2024 straight into an LLC tied directly to Michelle Obama.

The post also references an alleged FBI 'Autopen Task Force' and claims there was a surge in forged documents and fraudulent signatures during the same period.

It uses this to push a broader conspiracy theory that a so-called 'Deep State' was running the government.

Fact Check: The claim originated as a satire

However, there is no evidence that Soros paid millions to Obama to take over for Biden. The claim that Biden was mentally unfit for the office is also baseless. 

A search on Google for the claim yielded no credible evidence that supports the allegations, which, if true, would have been widely covered as discussed by prominent news media outlets. 

The search also revealed that the claim originated from a parody account called ‘America’s Last Line of Defense’ which describes in the bio ‘Nothing on this page is real.’ 

Hence, the claim is intended to be a satire that relies on exaggerated conspiracy theories linked to Soros.

A fact check by Grok stated, “No credible financial records, IRS filings, court documents, or investigations show the Soros Family Trust paying $1.6 million monthly to any Michelle Obama-linked LLC during that period (or for 'running' the Biden administration)."
