LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following Marvel’s recent X-Men casting reveal at D23, a viral post claimed that Tom Hardy has been cast as Wolverine. The rumor spread with images showing Hardy as the iconic mutant.

Hardy’s name has been linked to Wolverine rumors before, including a previous plan by director Matthew Vaughn to cast him as a younger version of the character, which may have added credibility to the latest claim.

Claim: Tom Hardy has been cast as Wolverine

The rumor originated from an X account called Chaos Crave, which claimed that Tom Hardy had been cast as Wolverine. The post stated, “Tom Hardy officially confirms he has been cast as Wolverine in Marvel Studios’ X-Men, bringing his signature gritty intensity to the MCU’s new mutant lineup.”

One more user posted the rumor saying, "Tom Hardy has reportedly been cast as Logan a.k.a Wolverine in the highly anticipated X-Men Reboot. He was supposedly chosen because of his intense physical transformations, distinctive voice work, & ability to completely disappear into complex characters."

The claim surfaced after Marvel announced the cast of its upcoming X-Men reboot at D23 2026. At the time of writing, the post had received more than 527,000 views and sparked several reactions.

Some users questioned the claim. One asked, “Is this true?” Another pointed to Hugh Jackman’s previous comments about Hardy, writing, “Jackman even says in an interview if he would pick a younger actor for a reboot, and he said, Tom Hardy.”

Other users appeared to believe the rumor. One wrote, “This is the right casting. Wolverine is a bit short and stocky. Hardy looks the part.” Another added, “Tom Hardy as Wolverine would be interesting, but why isn’t Hugh Jackman returning? His Logan is irreplaceable!!”

Fact Check: The claim is false

The claim is false. The rumor about Tom Hardy joining Marvel’s X-Men reboot came from a parody and satirical X account that describes itself as an “Unofficial, parody, satirical news account.”

Therefore, the post does not represent a real casting announcement from Marvel or a legitimate news source.

As of August 2026, Marvel Studios has announced the first group of actors for its upcoming X-Men reboot, directed by Jake Schreier and scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.

The confirmed cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury/Mister Sinister.

Marvel has not announced who will play several major characters, including Wolverine, Magneto, Beast and Mystique. The studio has indicated that more casting announcements will follow.

The Hardy rumor may have gained attention because Hugh Jackman previously named Tom Hardy as an actor he could see playing a younger version of Wolverine.

Hardy has remained a popular fan choice for the role because of his physicality and gritty performances. However, he is best known in the Marvel-related world for playing Eddie Brock/Venom in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, not Wolverine.
