WASHINGTON, DC: As President Donald Trump continues his rant against the Norwegian Nobel Committee for not awarding him the prize this year, a rumor is circulating on social media platforms claiming that a member of the Nobel Committee posted online about rejecting Trump. The post has drawn questions about its authenticity, prompting a fact-check.

Claim: Nobel Prize Committee posted about rejecting Trump's bid

The post appeared on X as a long tweet from an account claiming to be a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

The post begins with the alleged member stating, “There are five of us. Five people, appointed by a parliament most of the planet could not find on a map, who decide, once a year, which human being the world has agreed to call good.”

Referring to Trump, the post at one point states, “A certain head of state wanted this prize the way a child wants a thing in a shop window, which is to say loudly, and in public, and with the full belief that wanting it was itself the argument."

"He said he deserved it. He said he’d ended eight wars, a number that grew most times he said it, like a fish. He had other heads of state phone us. Israel’s prime minister posted it on the internet, 'Give him the Nobel.'"

"The leaders of Cambodia and Pakistan announced they’d nominated him, as though announcing it were part of it, as though we tally mentions. A man flew around the globe collecting endorsements for a Norwegian committee the way you’d collect signatures for a petition to the council about a noisy dog.”

Fact Check: Nobel Prize Committee made no such post

OSLO, NORWAY - DECEMBER 10: A plaque depicting Alfred Nobel at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony 2008 in Oslo City Hall on December 10, 2008 in Oslo, Norway. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2008 to Martti Ahtisaari for his important efforts, on several continents and more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of five Nobel Prizes bequeathed by the Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel. His will stated that the prize should be awarded by a committee of five people elected by the Norwegian Parliament. The Peace Prize is presented annually in Oslo, Norway, in the presence of the king, on December 10, the anniversary of Nobel's death. (Photo by Chris Jackson/Getty Images)

The claim, however, is false, as the author of the post, Peter Girnus, is not listed among the five members of the 2026 Norwegian Nobel Committee and is an online content creator who describes himself as a "satirist."

Moreover, there are no recent statements, official announcements, or social media posts from the Nobel Committee explaining the rejection of Trump's bid.

The claim surfaced after Trump, on Friday, October 9, amplified a fierce backlash against the Nobel Committee after it selected South African jurist Navi Pillay as this year’s winner.

Trump, on his Truth Social, reposted a statement from the Schoen Law Firm attacking the Nobel Committee’s decision to honour Pillay.

“Today the Nobel Committee shamed itself beyond repair; Pillay is an unabashed hater of America and Israel,” the statement said.
