WASHINGTON, DC: Following the massive Democratic victory in the midterm election, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that President Donald Trump accused the Democrats of using ‘witchcraft and Satanism’ to win the election. The claim has sparked criticism of the president, with many being skeptical and calling for a fact-check.

The rumor surfaced on Threads as a screenshot claiming to show a post by the president on his official Truth Social handle, dated November 4.

The alleged post read, “I was told not to say this but we all know the truth, The Democrats and lunatic left have engaged in WITCHCRAFT AND SATANISM to interfere in our elections on a spiritual level!! America is ONE NATION UNDER GOD and we WILL FIGHT these results! President DONALD J TRUMP.”

The screenshot also spread on other platforms, including X and Facebook, garnering hundreds of thousands of views. Many users appear to believe it is an authentic post by the president, while a few others dismissed it as fake, prompting a fact-check.

Fact Check: Donald Trump made no such post

The screenshot, however, is fake, as no such post exists on any of Trump’s official social media handles.

A search on his Truth Social account for the post revealed that he made no such post dated November 4.

Searches of commentary accounts on X that archive all his Truth Social posts, along with searches of other handles such as Facebook and X, also yielded no results matching the text in the screenshot.

If Trump had really made such a post or a comment, prominent news media outlets would have widely covered it, making headlines.

But a search on Google returned no credible news media reports in which the president accused the Democrats of using witchcraft and Satanism; rather, he stated that he was "absolutely willing" to accept the results of the election.

“I wasn’t on the Ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post after the Democratic midterm victory, which flipped a number of the traditionally Republican Senate seats in states that Trump won in 2024.

“We'll work with the Democrats, and we'll, you know, look forward to working with them. We'll probably work something out,” Trump said about the results.
