WASHINGTON, DC: Reports about US munitions shortages have sparked online debate as concerns grow over their impact on military decisions and diplomacy during the ongoing Iran conflict.

Amid the discussion, a report claimed that President Donald Trump confronted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during a Camp David cabinet meeting after allegedly being misled about severe shortages of long-range missiles and interceptors. Let's fact-check the claim.

Claim: Trump confronts Pete Hegseth at Camp David

The rumor about a confrontation between Trump and Pete Hegseth started after The Washington Post published an exclusive report.

The report quickly spread on X, with users sharing a passage that claimed, "President Donald Trump’s frustration over the Iran war boiled over at Camp David last week, where he demanded answers from Pete Hegseth on why he had apparently been misled on extreme munitions shortages that now threaten to limit military options with Iran."

The report discussed US weapons shortages, including limited supplies of long-range precision missiles such as ATACMS and PrSM, Tomahawk missiles, and air defense interceptors like Patriots and THAAD systems.

It claimed these shortages could affect the ability to carry out further large-scale strikes against Iran.

The report also came as Trump had considered major military action but later paused those plans while responding to diplomatic developments involving the Strait of Hormuz.

Fact Check: False, White House denies report

The claim is false. The White House quickly denied the report that Trump confronted Hegseth at Camp David over US munitions shortages.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who said she attended the meeting, rejected the claim. She wrote, "I was at Camp David with President Trump and Secretary Hegseth. This literally never happened, and we told the Washington Post that repeatedly."

Leavitt also criticized the report, saying, "This B.S. story was shopped to many outlets by someone clearly out to disparage the Secretary, for whatever reason. Unfortunately for them, the President loves the Secretary and thinks he’s doing a tremendous job. FAKE NEWS!"

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell also dismissed the report as false. He denied that Hegseth misled Trump about the military's munitions supply or blamed his deputy for any shortages. He called claims about internal disagreements within the Pentagon fictional.

Trump has publicly defended Hegseth, saying he is "extremely happy" with his performance. He has also criticized the report as false while focusing on identifying possible leaks of sensitive information.

No other officials or news organizations have provided on-the-record confirmation of the alleged confrontation. The claim relies on anonymous sources and has been directly disputed by Leavitt, who said she witnessed the meeting. While this does not prove the event could not have happened, there is no independent evidence confirming the alleged exchange.
