WASHINGTON, DC: On January 2, 2026, a claim circulated online that President Donald Trump said that the United States might intervene in ongoing protests in Iran.

As per a screenshot of an apparent Truth Social post, Trump wrote, "We are locked and loaded and ready to go." But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Trump's post read US is 'locked and loaded and ready to go'

Several social media users' posts mentioned that Trump made the above-mentioned statement. An X account @spectatorindex shared an apparent screenshot of Trump's Truth Social post and wrote in the caption, "BREAKING: Trump post about Iran protests."

Similarly, @MAGAVoice made a similar post that read, "BREAKING   At 2:58 AM President Trump stuns the World by putting Iran on notice 'We are locked and loaded and ready to go'. PEACE Through STRENGTH."

Another X account, @harryjsisson, wrote, "Trump just threatened to attack Iran at 3 am. Just curious what happened to the whole 'no more war' thing? I thought the whole point was to NOT get involved if a country does something bad that doesn’t involve us???"

The screenshot shared by these X users reads, "If Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

Fact Check: Trump did make the post on Truth Social

The claims made in the online posts are true, as Trump did make the post on Friday, January 2. The post also appeared on Trump's Truth, an archive of all of Trump's posts on the platform.

His full post read, "If Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

The POTUS was commenting on protests in Iran that started on December 29, 2025, after the country's currency hit a record low. It was reported that the currency's depreciation was increasing prices for food and other household items and that a reported gasoline price increase could worsen tensions in the country.

The report mentioned there were at least seven deaths in the protests, but noted that "state-run media did not fully acknowledge the violence," leading to uncertainty about the numbers and identities of the dead.

The reported deaths of protesters could have inspired Trump's post, according to Snopes.

Marjorie Taylor Greene slams Trump's Iran warning

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed Trump for his post on Iran, saying that the POTUS “threatening war” was “everything we voted against” in 2024.

She criticized Trump supporters by stating that they spent the past week "threatening a tax revolt" because they were angry about "never-ending waste," fraud, and abuse of their hard-earned money being diverted to foreigners and "foreign wars."

Greene wrote that the focus should be on "tax dollars" at "home" in America and defending American citizens' "God-given freedoms and rights."

Her post read, "An Israeli cybersecurity billionaire demanding to take away Americans guaranteed First Amendment Free Speech and President Trump threatening war and sending in troops to Iran is everything we voted against in ‘24."

"Trump voters spent the week threatening a tax revolt because they are so furious about the never ending waste, fraud, and abuse of their hard earned money going to foreigners and foreign wars. The focus should be on tax dollars here at home and defending our God given freedoms and rights," the post further added.
