Fact Check: Did Trump promise to end Iran's nuclear program if the GOP wins Congress?

Trump has also recently linked an end to the Iran conflict and possible economic relief to the election outcome

WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump is linking the outcome of the November midterm elections to several major promises. He says that if voters keep Republicans in control of both chambers of Congress, he will end Iran’s nuclear program, bring the war in Ukraine to an end, lower inflation, and reduce gas prices “for real this time.” Let's fact-check the claim.

Claim: Trump says he will end the Iran nuclear program if GOP wins Congress

The rumor originated with an X user named Halfway Post, who reported on Donald Trump’s promises if Republicans win control of Congress.

The user wrote, “Donald Trump says if voters let the GOP keep control of both chambers of Congress in November, he will end the Iran nuclear program, the Ukraine War, inflation, and bring down gas prices ‘for real this time.’”

The post reflects some recent statements from Trump about ending the ongoing Iran conflict, lowering energy prices, and easing inflation.

The claim is timely because the 2026 midterm elections are about seven weeks away, with voters set to cast their ballots on November 3. Trump has also recently linked an end to the Iran conflict and possible economic relief to the election outcome.

Higher energy costs and inflation remain major voter concerns. At the same time, Republicans face the possibility of losing control of one or both chambers of Congress, while the nearly seven-month-old war has become a political challenge for the administration.

Fact Check: False; the claim is satire

The claim is false and uses satirical exaggeration. Recent statements do not show that Trump linked ending the war in Ukraine to Republican control of Congress in the November 2026 midterm elections.

He also did not make the Iran-related comments as part of a clear list of promises tied to a GOP victory.

On September 9, 2026, Trump said the Iran war would end “immediately after” the midterm elections. He claimed Iran could not continue the conflict for much longer and accused Tehran of trying to get a “nice, weak group of people” into Congress who would “leave them alone and let them have their nuclear weapon.”

Trump has said the war aims to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. However, he did not make a conditional promise that he would end Iran’s nuclear program if Republicans retained control of Congress.

Trump has also said oil and gas prices will fall sharply once the Iran war ends, which he expects to happen after the midterms. He has repeatedly linked lower energy prices to the end of the conflict. Higher energy costs have also added to recent inflation concerns.

However, Trump did not say in the statements related to this claim that he would “end inflation” if Republicans kept control of Congress. He separately promised a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” if Republicans retain control of Congress.
