WASHINGTON, DC: A post claiming Donald Trump was rescued from rubble at Ground Zero on 9/11 has sparked reactions online.

The post includes a photo of Trump near the site and makes a dramatic claim about what happened to him after the attacks. The claim has since drawn attention as the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches. Let's fact-check the claim.

Claim: Trump was rescued from rubble at Ground Zero on 9/11

The rumor began with an X user who claimed that Trump released a photo of himself shortly after he was dug out of rubble at Ground Zero.

The post said, “BREAKING 911 News: President Trump has just released this photo of himself on 9/11, shortly after he was dug from the rubble at GROUND ZERO.” The user added, “If you look closely, you can still see Rubble Remains clinging to his jacket. The Man is a Hero.”

The claim comes as Trump faces renewed scrutiny over his recent accounts of his experiences after the 9/11 attacks. His comments have received significant media attention and fact-checking ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

Between September 6 and 8, 2026, Trump publicly described his activities after the 9/11 attacks. He said he went to the area “right after” the attacks with construction workers.

Trump made these comments at events honoring 9/11 victims and first responders.

Fact Check: False; the post is a satire

The claim is false. The post is satire, and there is no evidence that Trump was rescued or dug out of rubble at Ground Zero on 9/11.

The author later confirmed that the post was satire, writing, “Yes, it’s satire. No, there is no rubble on his suit. Yes, I know this was taken on 9/13. Yes, I know Trump was not actually at Ground Zero.”

The image is authentic and shows Trump visiting the area a few days after the attacks, around September 13, 2001. However, the post repurposed the photo for humor and falsely presents it as an image from 9/11 itself. Similar photos of Trump near the New York Stock Exchange area also appeared around September 18.

There is no evidence that Trump was at Ground Zero on September 11 or that rescuers pulled him from World Trade Center rubble.

Trump has repeatedly described an incident in which two firefighters lifted or carried him away from a nearby creaking building because they feared it could collapse.

He has placed that incident after the attacks, sometimes saying it happened “a couple of days later” or “shortly thereafter.”

However, no contemporaneous reports, photographs, or independent accounts show that Trump was dug out of rubble or needed to be rescued in that way.
