According to the viral claim that surfaced on X, US senators have officially called for Trump to be removed from office under the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution.

The amendment clarifies that the vice president will become the president if the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office by impeachment and establishes the procedure for filling a vacancy in the office of the vice president.

The claim has been amplified by various accounts, garnering hundreds of thousands of views, drawing mixed reactions from online users, with many expressing support for Trump’s removal, while others appeared disappointed and slammed the move.

Meanwhile, a few others remained skeptical and demanded the names of the Senators.

Fact Check: No calls from the Senators to remove Donald Trump

The claim, however, is false, as there are no new official calls from the Senators to remove Trump under the 25th Amendment.

There are no official reports, statements, or press releases from any of the Democratic Senators that support the claim, which, if true, would have been widely covered by credible news media outlets, making headlines.

But a search on Google and other search engines for the claim yielded no relevant news reports.

Moreover, Section 4 of the 25th Amendment requires Vice President JD Vance and a cabinet majority to act, or Congress to designate a body, both of which remain unfeasible, given Republican support for the president.

House Democrats sought the 25th Amendment to assess Donald Trump earlier this year

In April this year, a group of 50 House Democrats led by Jamie Raskin introduced legislation to create a commission under the 25th Amendment to assess whether Trump is mentally fit for office.

Raskin even formally requested the White House physician to conduct a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment of the president, describing Trump’s public statements as “incoherent” and “volatile.”

The 10-page bill outlines a bipartisan structure for the proposed panel, with the Congressional leaders from both parties appointing members, alongside former senior executive officials including vice presidents, cabinet secretaries, and attorneys general.

The panel would then select a chairperson, potentially a senior official or physician, to lead the commission to conduct a medical evaluation to determine whether the president is mentally or physically unable to carry out official duties.
