Fact Check: Did White House post AI-altered image to promote 'Trump TV?'
WASHINGTON, DC: A White House social media post promoting the newly launched ‘Trump TV’ livestream has used an AI-altered image that appears to show an entire airplane cabin watching the administration’s channel.
The White House shared the image on X, Facebook, and Instagram on October 2, 2026, alongside the message, “It’s what everybody is watching.” The posts promoted what they described as another “HUGE week” of events, including investment announcements, US energy and manufacturing initiatives, Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, America.gov, and President Donald Trump’s visits to Texas.
Claim: WH claims full flight watching Trump TV

However, the photograph is not an authentic image of passengers watching Trump TV. It was digitally modified from a 2023 photograph taken aboard a commercial flight during Super Bowl LVII.
The original photograph, captured on February 12, 2023, showed passengers watching the NFL championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City defeated Philadelphia 38-35.
In the original image, nearly every seatback entertainment screen was displaying the Super Bowl. One passenger, however, appeared to be watching Hitch, the 2005 romantic comedy starring Will Smith, Eva Mendes, and Kevin James.
The White House's version replaced the content visible on the screens, creating the impression that passengers throughout the cabin were watching Trump TV.
Fact Check: The image is AI-altered

An analysis using OpenAI’s image-verification technology found a SynthID watermark in the image. SynthID is an invisible watermarking technology used to identify media generated or modified with certain artificial intelligence tools.
Hive Moderation, an AI-detection service, also assessed the image and concluded it likely contained AI-generated or deepfake content, attributing the modification to OpenAI’s GPT Image 2 model.
A reverse-image search further connected the White House image to the original 2023 photograph from the Super Bowl flight.
The post comes amid an ongoing dispute between the Trump administration and several news organizations over access to the White House.
Trump Administration launches Trump TV
The Trump administration launched “Trump TV,” a YouTube livestream of presidential and White House events also available on the White House’s official website, after Trump announced on September 18 that Politico, CNN, and MS Now would be barred from White House press areas.
A court subsequently blocked the administration’s effort, while several major broadcasters halted participation in White House pool coverage in solidarity. The White House has also restricted some journalists from assignments involving travel aboard Air Force One.
The altered airplane photograph has therefore drawn attention not only to the administration’s new streaming platform but also to the growing use of AI-generated and AI-modified imagery in political communications.
