Whoopi Goldberg says she “has to question” Zohran Mamdani’s obvious commitment to turning… pic.twitter.com/AujH4NAM8q
The viral post claimed that Whoopi Goldberg had questioned Zohran Mamdani’s plans for New York City and accused him of having an “obvious commitment to turning New York City into a communist utopia.”
According to the post, Goldberg had supported some of Mamdani’s proposals but had objected to his tax plans.
“I like the idea of free child care and Head Start and cheaper groceries for those in need,” Goldberg said, “but he also wants to punish people like me, who have a lot of money invested in this city we love.”
The post also claimed that Goldberg’s tax bill had increased significantly under Mamdani’s policies, saying she would pay more than ten times as much in taxes as she had the previous year.
It then attributed a strong criticism of Mamdani to her: “I think we made a big mistake electing him.”
Fact Check: False
The claim is false. However, there is no credible evidence that Goldberg made these comments.
Searches of news reports, 'The View' coverage and transcripts, and available video references found no record of Goldberg expressing regret over electing Mamdani, describing his plans as a “communist utopia,” or claiming that her taxes would increase tenfold.
The quotes appear only in the viral X post and related unverified Telegram content. The available evidence does not support the claim that Goldberg made these statements or regretted Mamdani's election.
Whoopi Goldberg welcomed Zohran Mamdani after his inauguration on 'The View'
The co-hosts of 'The View'` welcomed newly inaugurated Mamdani and praised his policies in January 2026. Whoopi Goldberg was especially positive about his plans and said she hoped his approach could have an impact beyond New York.
Goldberg told Mamdani, “It's really nice to have you here. You make sense.” Mamdani replied, “Thank you!” while laughing.
Goldberg then explained why she supported his plans, saying, “Well, because it's important, you know. I just want to say, listen, if you can do what you say you can do, you will not only remake the city, but you may help remake the nation.”
