LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A social media post claims that popular Hollywood actress Zendaya slammed the former First Lady Michelle Obama by calling her ‘hideous.’ The claim has sparked overwhelming reactions among online users, with many appearing to believe it is true, while a few others called for a fact-check.
Claim: Zendaya called Michelle Obama ‘hideous’
According to a viral Facebook post, the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ actress called former President Barack Obama’s wife ‘hideous.’
“I wasn’t a huge fan of the makeup woman for this film,” she allegedly said in an interview. “I mean, she was starting to make me look like Michelle Obama, and to me, that’s completely hideous.”
The claim has been widely shared across several social media platforms, with many interpreting that alleged remark as the actress’ disdain for the ‘Becoming’ author and the Democratic Party member.
Meanwhile, a few others dismissed the claim as fake and questioned its authenticity, calling for a fact-check.
Fact Check: The claim originated as satire
The claim, however, is false, as there is no evidence of the 30-year-old actress making such a remark about Michelle Obama.
There are no such recent interviews in which she made the above-mentioned statement. There are also no other official statements or transcripts in which the actress made a mention of the former First Lady.
If the claim were true, it would have been widely reported by credible news and entertainment media outlets, given the popularity of the two women and the controversy surrounding that alleged remark.
Moreover, the claim was posted by a popular Facebook parody account called ‘America’s Last Line Of Defense,’ which describes itself in the bio as ‘Nothing on this page is real.’
Michelle Obama praised Zendaya's Emmy win
In a conversation between the two on Instagram Live on September 22, Michelle acknowledged Zendaya's success, which made Zendaya only the second Black woman in history to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
"Congratulations, Emmy winner, fabulous one," Obama remarked, revealing that she had watched Euphoria. "I watched it, girl. I watched every episode. I'm so proud of you. Well, you're winning Emmys and encouraging voter participation. You are a fashion icon. You're doing it all."
The conversation quickly turned to protests against racial inequality by young people, a topic Zendaya touched on in her acceptance speech.
"I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm very inspired by my peers who have continuously been out in the streets doing good work, and I think we should all honor that," Zendaya said.
