George Soros — the man who funded…
According to the viral claim, the Department of Justice has placed George Soros under house arrest amid calls for it to probe his organization, the Open Society Foundation.
The rumor also claims that his son, Alexander Soros, has fled the country over the purported house arrest.
The viral post claimed that federal agents surrounded Soros’s estate in Katonah, New York, placing him under house arrest, while his son purportedly fled on a private jet from Teterboro Airport at 3:22 am on March 6 to Dubai, ahead of a supposed federal crackdown.
According to the post, the crackdown is linked to an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.
It further alleges that Soros is linked to a financial network connected to late financier Jeffrey Epstein, and multiple district attorneys funded by Soros are under federal investigation.
Fact Check: False, no evidence of charges or crackdown on George Soros
However, there is no credible evidence to support these claims.
In September 2025, according to reports by several media outlets, a senior DOJ official directed federal prosecutors in multiple states to prepare potential probes into the Open Society Foundation, where prosecutors were asked to explore whether criminal charges could apply.
According to a report by ABC News, the directive reportedly went to US attorneys’ offices in states such as California, New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Maryland.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the directive came after political pressure and allegations from conservative groups and politicians claiming that organizations funded by OSF supported protests or activist groups linked to unrest.
OSF, however, denied the allegations and said that it 'unequivocally condemns terrorism.' As of now, OSF has not been the subject of any public charges or verified criminal findings.
A fact check by Grok stated, “This claim is false. No credible reports confirm George Soros under house arrest, federal agents raiding his home, or Alexander Soros fleeing to Dubai on March 6. Fact-checks by Hindustan Times & Times Now label it baseless misinformation.”
“EO 14291 (May 2025) establishes a Religious Liberty Commission — not asset freezes or Soros probes. DOJ has directed reviews of Open Society Foundations since Sept 2025 for potential issues, but no arrests, target letters to those DAs, or Epstein links as described.”
