WASHINGTON, DC: A claim has been circulating on social media that the documentary film, Melania based on the life of First Lady Melania Trump, has been named as the best film at this year’s FIFA Film Awards. The rumor has sparked speculations among netizens, with many questioning the authenticity of the claim. Let us fact-check the news.

Claim: Melania Trump's documentary film wins the best film award

The claim surfaced on the social media platform X on Tuesday, January 27, on a page called Hoodlum, which has more than two hundred thousand followers.

The post came with the official poster of the documentary film, accompanied by a caption stating, “Congratulations Malaria: MELANIA NAMED BEST FILM AT THE 2026 FIFA FILM AWARDS.”

The post has garnered more than 20000 views and thousands of likes and comments as of this writing.

Fact Check: The post originated as a satire

The post, however, is a satire as it is from a parody account that posts satire for entertainment purposes. The page’s bio even read, “Satirical Emeritus.”

Also, a search on Google does not generate any results supporting the claim. If it were true, prominent news media outlets or official social media handles affiliated with the White House would have reported it.

Moreover, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), an international self-regulatory governing body of association football, beach football, and futsal, does not host any film awards.

Furthermore, the film is set to be released only by the end of this month, and it is not possible for an unreleased film receive awards.

Grok, the AI assistant of X, has also confirmed the rumor to be fake, stating, “The image appears to be satirical. There is a real documentary film called ‘Melania’ about Melania Trump, set for release on January 30, 2026.

However, FIFA (the football organization) does not host film awards, and no credible sources report the film winning any such award. It's likely a meme playing on the film's name and nonexistent honors.”
