Fact Check: Is the video showing Trump waking himself up with a fart in the Oval Office real?
WASHINGTON, DC: A video has been circulating on social media platforms claiming to show President Donald Trump in the Oval Office waking himself up with a fart. The video has garnered a wave of reactions from online users, with many mocking the president, while others raised questions about its authenticity, prompting a fact-check.
Claim: Donald Trump woke himself up with a fart
The video that surfaced this month shows the president waking himself up with a fart after appearing to doze off during an announcement in the Oval Office.
The video was shared on X with an overlay text stating, “Trump wakes himself up after audible fart during White House briefing."
The same video was later shared on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, garnering millions of views.
The video drew mixed reactions from netizens, with many mocking and criticising the president, while others called the video fabricated and called for an investigation of the clip.
Fact Check: Fake; sound effects were added to the clip
Although the video is authentic, an examination of the clip reveals that a sound effect was edited into the video. Also, during the video, Trump’s eyes look partially or fully closed for a few seconds, and he does not slowly drop his head or show other signs of dozing off.
The clip was taken from a longer video where the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr Mehmet Oz, was speaking, referring to Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala) during an announcement at the White House about maternal healthcare on May 11 this year.
The video is available on YouTube, and the same moment from the altered fart clip begins at the 20:24 mark.
A search on Google for ‘fart sound effect’ revealed that a YouTube video titled ‘Top 10 fart meme sound effects’ featured the same fart sound effect at the 0:16 mark.
Donald Trump's health concerns resurface
Although the video was fabricated, it has sparked concerns about the president’s health. On July 31, photos of the president taken during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David triggered fresh debates about his health after a new bruise was spotted on his hand.
Journalist Aaron Rupar shared the images on X, stating, “Trump's left hand (not the right one that is usually mangled) is discolored."
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in 2025, stated that Trump has undergone a "comprehensive exam," including vascular testing, which found that he has a chronic vein condition that causes discoloration of his hand.
