Fact Check: Will Barron Trump not be a US citizen if dad Donald ends birthright citizenship in country?
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: President-elect Donald Trump recently announced his plan to sign an executive order on Day One of his potential new term to end automatic citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants in the United States.
Now, a viral social media post has claimed that Trump’s plan to end birthright citizenship would negatively affect his youngest son, Barron Trump. Is there any truth to this? Let's find out below.
Claim: Donald Trump’s plan to end birthright citizenship would negatively affect Barron
A Facebook post on Saturday, November 16, claimed that Donald Trump’s plan to end birthright citizenship would come with a serious consequence for his youngest son, Barron.
The viral post read, "BTW, according to Trump’s own denaturalization plan, Barron Trump should have to be deported. He was born 3 months before his mother became a US citizen which means he’s not a citizen and has to go. That’s according to Trump’s policies."

Notably, several versions of the claim were also shared across different social media platforms.
False: Barron Trump is a US citizen and the move would not affect him
Barron Trump is a US citizen, and the President-elect's proposal would not affect him for multiple reasons, according to USA Today. The proposal would only cover future births and would not apply to children born in the US to at least one parent who already is a citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Moreover, at the time of Barron's birth, both of his parents met that requirement.
The 14th Amendment has granted citizenship to anyone born in the US for more than 150 years. However, Trump’s Agenda 47 policy platform states the clause has been "misinterpreted" and that US citizenship extends only to those both born in and "subject to the jurisdiction" of the US.
As per Trump, it means that children born in the US to parents who are in the country illegally are not US citizens. However, even if the proposal is enacted, it would not affect or change Barron’s citizenship status, per the outlet.
Moreover, Trump mentioned he would address birthright citizenship with an executive order on the first day of his second presidential term and added that the policy would not be retroactive and would be only applied to children born after it takes effect.
Furthermore, it would require at least one parent to be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the US, also known as a "green card" holder, for that child to automatically become a citizen.
Barron Trump's influence on his father's presidential campaign
Barron Trump had been behind the President-elect in reaching some of his biggest audiences of the 2024 election cycle through Trump's appearances on podcasts aimed at Gen Z and millennial men.
Barron was rarely spotted on the campaign trail but his father frequently credited him with helping him pick his podcast spots, per the New York Post.
During the presidential campaign, Trump sat for an interview with streamer Adin Ross and also appeared on 'This Past Weekend with Theo Von', 'Flagrant' with comic Andrew Schulz, and the 'PBD Podcast' with businessman Patrick Bet-David.
The former and future president also appeared on Logan Paul’s 'Impaulsive' podcast in June and taped an appearance on 'The Joe Rogan Experience'.
Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller told the Politico 'Playbook Deep Dive' podcast in October, "Barron has been very involved in recommending a number of the podcasts that we should do."
He added, "I got to tell you, hats off to the young man. Every single recommendation he’s had has turned out to be absolute ratings gold that’s broke the internet."
