HAMILTON, OHIO: Hamilton police declared on Wednesday, April 3, that the death of a man whose body was discovered in an alley on Monday, April 1, was a homicide and that a suspect was taken into custody on a murder charge.

Fermin Garcia-Gutierrez, 46, is being held at the Butler County Jail on allegations of premeditated aggravated murder, using a weapon while intoxicated, possessing a concealed weapon, having drugs, and interfering with official business, according to jail records.

Fermin Garcia-Gutierrez has been in jail 11 times

After receiving a 911 call on Monday at 2.35 pm, officers discovered the victim's body in the 1100 block of S. 13th Street.

Richard Jones, the Butler County Sheriff, declared during a press conference on Friday, March 29, that Garcia-Gutierrez was incarcerated on an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) holder.

“Garcia-Gutierrez has been deported seven times and he has been in our jail 11 times using seven different names and three different date of births,” Sheriff Jones said, Fox 19 Now reported.

The sheriff raised concerns regarding border security and illegal immigration while discussing Garcia-Gutierrez's case.

During the press conference on Friday, March 29, Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones criticized President Joe Biden for the state of affairs at the border.

He claimed that since July 2021, 999 "illegal aliens" have been detained and charged by the state in the county jail, which had cost more than $1.8 million, as per Journal-News.

849,469 illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2024

In response to the sheriff's worries, the Ohio Immigration Alliance stated that “immigrants commit crimes at a far lower rate than people born in the United States. That is the finding of every study conducted by credible institutions, not an advocacy group like the Center for Immigration Studies.”

US Customs and Border Protection released data showing that in fiscal year 2024, 849,469 illegal immigrants have been encountered. This is in addition to the 2,045,838 encounters in fiscal year 2023, the 2,206,436 encounters in fiscal year 2022, and the 1,659,206 encounters in fiscal year 2021.

Ever since Laken Riley, a nursing student, was killed, Republicans—including former President Donald Trump—have drawn attention to crimes related to illegal immigration.

22-year-old Riley was killed on February 22 allegedly by Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, while she was out on a jog on the University of Georgia campus.
