Fifth man at house where 3 Chiefs fans 'froze to death' reveals they were watching 'Jeopardy!' when he left
ILLINOIS, CHICAGO: The fifth person at a Kansas City Chiefs watch party has provided additional details about the final hours of David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, who froze to death at their friend Jordan Willis's residence on January 7, 2024.
The group had gathered to watch their hometown team in its last regular-season game. Willis, who had been sleeping on the couch for two days, was unaware of his close friends' demise until law enforcement contacted him at home following the incident.
What did the fifth friend expose?
According to the New York Post, Andrew talge, the attorney for the fifth friend, asserted that his client emphasized not being the last person to see Harrington, Johnson, and McGeeney alive before they tragically froze to death in Willis' yard, remaining undiscovered for two days.
The friend had entered the residence around 7 pm and departed around midnight.
When the fifth individual left, all four men, including the victims, were still awake and engaged in watching 'Jeopardy!'—suggesting that the three individuals were still alive in the early hours of Monday, January 8.
As per Talge, his client received texts from McGeeney's fiancee and Johnson's mother, both inquiring about their respective loved ones.
Fueled by these concerns, Talge's client reached out via text to Willis and Johnson, but allegedly received no response from either.
According to People, attorney John Picerno, representing Jordon Willis, acknowledged the presence of the fifth man at the house on the night of January 8. However, he stated that this individual left approximately an hour or two before the other three, and Jordan is not certain about that specific time frame.
Nevertheless, WDAF reported that Picerno later mentioned Willis went to sleep before the three men departed.
Picerno clarified, "When he would have people over at his house, sometimes as friends, they get tired. People who are very close to you, and you feel comfortable going to bed and allowing them to leave when they want to leave," as reported by WDAF.
What did Clayton McGeeney's cousin say?
Caleb McGeeney, cousin of the deceased Clayton McGeeney, expressed his deep sorrow, stating, "Just the thought of him dying and them him sitting outside in the cold for two days It’s extremely devastating. The whole family is messed up. He was such a good person.”
Another cousin, Alan McGeeney, echoed the sentiment, “It just hasn’t really set in; I don’t think it will,I’m not looking for anyone’s head or anything, but my cousin was frozen to the dirt for two days It’s gotten a lot of attention from everyone having questions but not a lot of attention from anyone having any action; it just seems strange.”
Alan shared that Clayton, the late cousin, had a passion for motorcycling and exploring the country. He also mentioned that Clayton was making positive changes in his life, addressing previous issues with traffic violations and child support, saying, “He was on a good path. He cared about that" as per people.
GoFundMe page established for 3 dead Chiefs fans
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated on behalf of Clayton's fiancee. The page states, "April now has expenses related to the funeral as well as the stress from going from a dual income household to a single income”
The fundraiser description continues, “Clayton was a subcontractor for a small construction company and work was slow at the time of his death. Please help us show her love and support during this difficult and sad time in her life."
Jennifer Marquez, the mother of David Harrington, has organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover the funeral expenses for her deceased son.
She wrote, "I miss my son very much. I have no words on how much he meant to everybody to myself to his sister. To his brother and to all of his many many friends. And I'm praying that people out there."
Describing the third victim, Ricky Johnson, his niece Stephanie Walling characterized him as a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend.
In a GoFundMe campaign for her uncle, Walling expressed, “This tragedy has left our family utterly devastated and mourning a tremendous loss.” She added that Johnson was a father to three "beautiful daughters."
