KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: Three people apparently succumbed to extreme cold temperatures after watching a Kansas City Chiefs game at a friend's residence.

They were discovered lifeless on the evening of January 9 at a house in a Kansas City suburb in Platte County, according to information provided by the Kansas City Police Department to USA Today.

A spokesperson from Forensic Medical of Kansas confirmed the identities of the deceased as Ricky Johnson, 38, David Harrington, 37, and Clayton McGeeney, 36.

As per police, officials from multiple agencies were collaborating to determine their cause of death.

With the Chiefs gearing up to face the Buffalo Bills next, the tragic incident has caused social media users to speculate about the mystery surrounding the deaths.

Autopsy results of the three Kansas City Chiefs fans remain pending

Police Captain Corey Carlisle reported that on the day of discovery, the fiance of one of the men visited the home, found a body on the back porch, and promptly called 911.

Officers arrived at the scene at 9.51 pm, confirmed the presence of one dead body, and, upon further investigation, discovered two additional bodies in the backyard. No apparent signs of foul play were observed "at or near the crime scene," as reported by USA Today.

The time of the men's demise and the circumstances remain undisclosed. A medical examiner will ascertain the cause of death, according to Police Sergeant Jake Becchina's email to USA Today.

A spokesperson of the medical examiner mentioned that autopsies were conducted on all three men, with results pending in their respective cases as of Tuesday, January 16. Toxicology test results were also not yet available.

Sergeant Becchina stated that the resident of the house was cooperative with detectives on the day the men were found dead. Information about the person has not been released due to the ongoing investigation.

However, he apparently told police that "his friends froze to death."

He also noted that no arrests had been made and no charges had been filed in the case, emphasizing, "This case is 100% not being investigated as a homicide."

WDAF-TV reported that before the bodies were discovered, Harrington's mother, Jennifer Marquez, mentioned that her son went to a friend’s house to watch the Chiefs vs Los Angeles Chargers game on January 7.

"Everybody is furious," stated Marquez, adding that her son was a funny, loving man survived by a brother and sister. She claimed, "Nobody believes this story. None of his friends, none of the families," about the notion that they froze to death.

The National Weather Service reported a low temperature of 29 degrees Fahrenheit on game day, as per USA Today. On January 8, the low was 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and on January 9, it was 18 degrees Fahrenheit.

Internet reacts to the news of three Kansas City Chiefs fans freezing to death after watching a game

After the news of the sudden and mysterious death of Johnson, Harrington, and McGeeney made its way to the internet, netizens couldn't help but share their opinions regarding the incident.

One wrote, "How do you have 1 dead man on your back porch and 2 other in the yard for 2 days and not notice them?"

Another stated, "It's actually pretty easy to freeze to death, particularly when inebriated and not prepared for the weather. The family may be right to ask for more information, but the hypothesis is not as outlandish as they seem to think."

"Geeze, horrible. The family need to let the medical examiners do their job first. What are the police suppose to do....take guesses? No, they wait for the report and go from there," remarked a person.
