WASHINGTON, D.C: Donald Trump’s ex-national security adviser John Bolton recently blasted the former president while appearing on Thursday’s episode of MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’.

Bolton slammed the Republican candidate by saying he is “fundamentally ignorant.” The former security adviser opined Trump “really doesn’t care about the facts.”

John Bolton criticized Donald Trump on his security policies

Appearing on ‘Morning Joe’ on Thursday, February 1, Bolton reacted to a video footage of the 77-year-old GOP candidate’s speech where he questioned Europe’s funding of Ukraine’s military while reflecting on the US’ future with NATO.

Commenting on the clip, Bolton said, “It reveals an important trait about Trump on national security issues and many others,” as per The Hill.

He continued, “He’s fundamentally ignorant, and he really doesn’t care about the facts.”

Commenting on Trump’s equation with other world leaders, Bolton said, “He thinks international relations are about personal relations, which is a line and approach that I can tell you, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping are eagerly looking forward to.”

This is, however, not the first time when Bolton reflected on the US’ future with NATO. In August 2023, he said, “In a second Trump term, we’d almost certainly withdraw from NATO.”

John Bolton says world leaders think Donald Trump is 'laughing pool'

On Wednesday, January 31, Bolton, who served in the White House in 2018 and 2019, said several world leaders think Donald Trump is a “laughing pool”.

He said during a conversation with CNN, “XI Jinping and Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-un, and others, they think he’s a laughing fool.”

Calling out Trump’s alleged “self-absorption,” Bolton added, “And they’re fully prepared to take advantage of him. Trump’s self-absorption makes it impossible for him to understand that.”

Internet erupts after John Bolton's claims

While a section of the fans hailed Bolton for speaking up against his former boss, others slammed him after questioning his "credibility."

One of the fans remarked, "Well, it seems like John Bolton isn't holding back! When your own former National Security Adviser calls you "fundamentally ignorant" and questions your grasp on international relations, it's not exactly a ringing endorsement, is it? 😂.."

"If only he’d been more vocal before… but better late than never I guess," said someone else.

Another social media user praised him for voicing his concerns, saying, "If he had spoken up earlier, it would have been better, but it's still good that he's finally doing so now. His voice adds value to the conversation."

"And yet, despite all the gnashing of teeth, Bolton refuses to say he will Vote for Biden," observed someone else.

A netizen added, "John Bolton lost his chance for credibility. He’s now saying what we knew already, so we don’t care to hear from him."

"NATO, a cold war relic that should have been dissolved in 1991, as is John Bolton," said an enraged critic.

"Bolton has never seen a war he didn’t love. Trump started no wars and was lauded for the Abraham Accords. Bolton needs to get off tv and take his warmongering friends with him," said someone else.
