LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Frank Fritz, the beloved star of 'American Pickers', tragically died on Monday, September 30, at the age of 60, following a long struggle with complications from a severe stroke he experienced in July 2022.

Known for his charming personality and passion for antique hunting, Frank's last years were marked by significant health struggles and a steep decline in his physical abilities, as per The US Sun.

His co-star and longtime friend, Mike Wolfe, along with other loved ones, were by his side during his final moments.

Frank Fritz's health deteriorated considerably in weeks leading up to his death

In the weeks leading up to his death, Frank Fritz's health had significantly deteriorated.

A source close to the star exclusively revealed to The US Sun that Frank was suffering immensely.

"He has been bad since the stroke and he had been getting worse," the insider said. "He was unable to move the right side of his body. He needed 24-hour care."

The source further confirmed, "There was no way he was getting better. He was in a home."

These serious complications came after two difficult years following his initial stroke, which left him permanently wheelchair-bound and dependent on others for his basic needs.

As his condition worsened, his closest friends stepped in to ensure his safety and care.

In August 2022, a conservatorship was established on his behalf due to the seriousness of his health situation. This conservatorship allowed trusted individuals to handle his financial and medical decisions, as he was no longer able to do so himself.

In July 2024, nearly two years after the stroke, conservator MidWestOne Bank filed a petition to take control of Frank's finances, citing his growing need for long-term, skilled nursing care.

His declining health meant that the once energetic picker could no longer manage his affairs or live independently.

Frank Fritz’s condition left him fully reliant on medical care

Frank Fritz’s health challenges extended beyond his stroke. Between 2022 and 2023, he was hospitalized four times due to complications including pneumonia and seizures.

Unable to fully recover, Frank's condition left him dependent on medical care and the support of those around him.

Though a ramp was installed outside his Iowa farmhouse to accommodate his wheelchair, his stay at the residence was short-lived as he was soon moved to a rehabilitation center where he could receive more extensive care.

In the months following his stroke, Frank’s close friends took legal steps to ensure his safety and well-being.

A conservatorship and guardianship were established in August 2022. MidWestOne Bank was appointed as his conservator, while his longtime friend Chris Davis was chosen to be his guardian.

Documents obtained by The US Sun shed light on Frank's dire condition.

The documents stated, "Because of his stroke, Mr. Fritz’s decision-making capacity is so impaired that he is unable to care for his own safety or to provide for necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, or medical care without which physical injury or illness may occur."

The court documents continued, "Mr. Fritz’s decision-making capacity is so impaired that he is unable to make, communicate, or carry out important decisions concerning his own financial affairs. Decisions must be made for Mr. Fritz’s care and placement while he continues to recover and receive treatment for his injuries."
