CINCINNATI, OHIO: A major crash between a car and a fuel tanker on southbound Interstate-471 (I-471) sparked a large fire and explosion, creating panic in the area. The accident forced authorities to shut down all lanes of the highway. I-471 is near the Memorial Parkway exit in Newport, Northern Kentucky.
The City of Newport reported the crash occurred around 10:10 pm on Friday, March 13, near the Memorial Parkway exit. Flames from the wreck were visible from parts of the interstate as firefighters rushed to the scene.
Two children, ages 6 and 12, were taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with minor injuries. An adult woman in the car was also treated for minor injuries. Their names have not been revealed yet. Officials are investigating the cause of the crash, while emergency crews continue working to clear the highway and secure the area.

Fox 19 reports that a tanker crash sparked the fire. First responders are working at the scene, and drivers were advised to avoid the area. Firefighters said flames from the tanker traveled through the highway drainage system and reached the sewer below.
Though authorities confirmed that no significant structural damage occurred, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) said bridge inspections will be conducted before any lanes are reopened to ensure safety.
