Bill and Hillary Clinton cheer daughter Chelsea at Boston Marathon in rare appearance
A rare public sighting
Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton made a rare joint appearance at the Boston Marathon, stepping out together to support their daughter Chelsea, 46, in a moment that quickly drew attention. She reportedly ran under the pseudonym “Margaret Smith,” as she continued her habit of maintaining some privacy during competitions.
A warm embrace
Photos captured Chelsea going in for a hug from her dad as Hillary proudly looked on. The outing stands out as a softer, more personal appearance for the couple, who have maintained a relatively low public profile recently, making this family-centered moment all the more notable. Boston marked Chelsea's seventh completed marathon overall.
All eyes on Chelsea
The couple was there to cheer on Chelsea Clinton, shifting the focus from politics to family as they watched her take part in the iconic race. Joining the couple to meet her at the finish line was 2014 champion Meb Keflezghi, the last American man to win the race. Keflezghi was also an announcer at this year's race. Monday, April 20, marked Patriots’ Day in Massachusetts and the 130th edition of the Boston Marathon, as more than 30,000 runners took on the grueling 26.2-mile journey to the iconic finish line on Boylston Street in Boston’s Copley Square. Organizers of the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual marathon said this year’s race featured one of its strongest and most competitive fields to date.
A feel good finish
The couple greeted their daughter at the race's finish line on Boylston Street, where she clocked a time of 3:40:52. Chelsea maintained a steady pace of 8:26 per mile, clocking a 1:49:41 first half and a closely matched 1:51:11 second half.
Proud parent moment
The former president and secretary of state were seen cheering on Chelsea Clinton, embracing their roles as proud parents rather than political figures. Their presence added a personal touch to the high-energy marathon atmosphere as they were seen awarding Chelsea a finisher's medal. Bill and Hillary Clinton helped present medals not only to their daughter but also to the police officers who ran alongside her during the race.
Blending into the crowd
Surrounded by cheering crowds and runners, the Clintons appeared relaxed and engaged, soaking in the electric atmosphere while keeping their attention on Chelsea as she crossed the finish line during the 130th Boston Marathon.
