Trump’s Great American State Fair turns National Mall into fairground with 110-foot Ferris wheel, triumphal arch, rodeos

The area around the White House and the National Mall underwent a dramatic transformation for the Great American State Fair, with iconic public spaces reimagined as sprawling festival grounds celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary. Expansive lawns are filled with state pavilions, carnival rides, food vendors, military displays, and live entertainment stages. This temporary makeover has turned one of Washington's most recognizable civic spaces into a vibrant fairground that blends patriotic symbolism with classic Americana attractions.

One of President Donald Trump's long-held ambitions became reality at the fair, where a scaled-down replica of his proposed 250-foot 'triumphal arch' was unveiled as a signature attraction. Designed specifically for America's 250th birthday celebrations, the structure serves as both a patriotic symbol and one of the fair's most photographed landmarks, making it an ideal starting point for visitors.

Directly opposite the mock triumphal arch stands a hulking 110-foot Ferris wheel, offering sweeping views of the National Mall, the Capitol, and the Washington Monument. Whether during the day or after sunset, the ride promises panoramic views of the celebrations and is expected to be one of the event's biggest crowd-pullers.

The fair features another major attraction: a collection of pavilions representing all 50 states and US territories, allowing visitors to explore regional culture, cuisine, tourism, history, and traditions in one place. Each pavilion will showcase its state's unique identity through immersive displays and interactive experiences.

The fair’s American Heartland Arena brings the spirit of the Wild West to the National Mall with daily trick roping, cattle drives and cowboy performances. Instead of a traditional rodeo competition, organizers say the attraction will be a 'living historical experience.' 'Rodeo 250 is more than a western showcase; it’s a celebration of the values and traditions that helped build our nation,' the organization’s chief executive, Keith Krach, said in a statement earlier this month.

Military flyovers became one of the fair's standout attractions as aircraft from the US Armed Forces soared over the National Mall during key ceremonies. The dramatic aerial displays honored the nation's service members and heightened the patriotic spirit of the 250th anniversary celebrations.
