Melania Trump honors Young AI Innovators at White House Awards Ceremony

Held in the White House East Room, the ceremony recognized six National Champion Teams selected from more than 20,000 student participants spanning all 50 states and Washington, DC. The challenge invited elementary, middle and high school students to develop AI-powered solutions addressing issues ranging from healthcare and nutrition to public safety and community development.

Addressing the finalists, Melania emphasized the transformative potential of artificial intelligence while encouraging students to approach the technology with creativity and purpose. "Today is about opening doors," the first lady said during the ceremony, adding that innovation flourishes when students are given opportunities to pursue their passions and ambitions. She praised the participants for demonstrating curiosity, courage, and a willingness to tackle challenges facing their communities.

While addressing the young leaders of the future, Melania said, "It is wonderful to see this very impressive group of innovators at the White House. I’m proud that you represent the best of America. You are our future." The event represented the culmination of a nationwide competition launched in 2025 under the Presidential AI Challenge initiative.

For Melania, the event offered another opportunity to spotlight education, technology, and youth development issues that have increasingly defined her public initiatives during President Donald Trump's second term. She awarded Alexander Du of Sewickley, Pa. while saying, "Use this chapter of your life to sail away with your dreams—to continue to build boldly, and importantly, to safeguard America’s leading position in the world of technology."

As the ceremony concluded, the first lady urged students to continue exploring new ideas and using technology to improve their communities, casting the young innovators in attendance as a glimpse of America's future technological leadership. "Today is about new beginnings. Don’t be reluctant to push that door open, be bold with your dreams, and brave with your actions."
