Barack Obama’s appearance marked a major show of national Democratic support for Texas candidates ahead of a high-stakes election cycle, as the party hopes backlash against the Trump administration could help deliver its first statewide victory in Texas since 1994 despite formidable Republican opposition from John Cornyn, Ken Paxton and Greg Abbott, all backed by massive campaign war chests.
