Gayle King calls out Hayden Panettiere's mother over her comments on actress' sudden death
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Gayle King couldn't hold back her thoughts about Hayden Panettiere's estranged mother, Lesley Vogel's, comments. During their broadcast on Wednesday, August 19, King called Vogel's remarks about her late daughter “sad.”
King added, “You read this, and all I can think is, ‘Thanks, Mom, for nothing." For those unaware, Vogel's comment a couple of days back said she wished she “stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes.”

During the latest episode of CNS Mornings, King was joined by Kelly O’Grady and Vladimir Duthiers. They talked about the latest developments in the death of the 36-year-old actress.
Recounting Panettiere's Vogel's NBC News comment, King shared, “You know, guys, you read this, and all I can think is, ‘Thanks, Mom, for nothing,’” King said. Duthiers added, “I mean, Hayden Panettiere spent years publicly acknowledging her own failures, her own struggles. She did it with you in that interview."
Gayle King just did what most people in media are too polite to do.

After Hayden Panettiere died, her estranged mother released a statement that managed to turn a eulogy into a final dig — calling her own daughter “amazing and talented… but on the wrong path.”

"She cannot respond now, and for her mother to use these days after Hayden’s death to just remind the world just how much trauma she caused, it’s unseemly.” “It makes me so sad about the opportunity that you have after your daughter’s death that that’s what you choose to leave us with,” King said.
O’Grady said that “we would all agree” if Vogel had “stopped at ‘she’s amazing and she’s talented.’” “You would hope a mother’s instinct is just to mourn your daughter,” Duthiers said, while King added, “Follow the lead of your partner, the father of her child.”
What Lesley Vogel said about her daughter after her sudden death
Vogel called her daughter “an amazingly talented person in so many departments.” But she did make some comments that raised eyebrows.
During the interview with NBC, Vogel commented, "I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry, it is a struggle and it’s a very challenging industry and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path."
She said, “I think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself, and I think Hayden sadly lost her way, and I wish it were different. I wish she had stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes.”
Vogel also added that she felt Hayden was “with her brother and they’re at peace.” During a May interview, Panettiere shared that she and her mother could eventually repair the damaged relationship.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have a relationship right now,” she told Us Weekly at the time. “But that doesn’t mean that I don’t leave the door open for the opportunity to present itself one day.”
