BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA: Authorities claim that during her purported kidnapping, an Alabama woman who was found dead on the street begged for help from bystanders but was turned away.
In February, the Birmingham Police Department had a press release stating that on January 15, Genise Carter, an Alabama resident, was found shot to death.
Genise Carter found face down after kidnapping and beating
Carter, 43, was found face down on a dead-end street wearing nothing but a pair of socks, according to Birmingham Detective Finke, as reported by AL.com.
She had allegedly been kidnapped and brutally beaten earlier in the day, according to the police.
Following her death, Birmingham Police reported that 21-year-old Jayden Gildersleeve and 62-year-old Michael Spellman were each arrested separately.
After being taken into custody on January 31, Gildersleeve was accused by the police of first-degree kidnapping and capital murder (kidnapping).
At that time, police stated that Spellman was taken into custody on February 1 and charged with capital murder, also known as kidnapping.
A judge ordered the two to be held without bond during their preliminary hearing on Tuesday, March 19, according to AL.com. Uncertainty surrounds whether they have hired lawyers to advocate for them.
Finke examined surveillance footage that purportedly showed Carter being abducted over thirty minutes at a Birmingham, Alabama, gas station.

Finke said that the video depicts Carter pulling into the gas station around four in the morning on the day that Gildersleeve and Spellman are said to have followed her in.
Finke stated that the men drove off after forcing Carter, according to the outlet, out of the store and into a car at gunpoint a few minutes later. After a short while, Carter ran out of the car to ask for assistance.
They soon returned to the station with "quite a few cars there," according to Finke.
According to court testimony, AL.com reports that she allegedly tried to ask several bystanders for assistance, but only one of them called 911.
Finke reported that Carter also jumped into an unknown person's SUV and was observed "bear-hugging the driver" to get assistance. When she attempted to flee into the store, the men allegedly assaulted her.
They allegedly grabbed her and brought her back to their car, per Finke. According to him, she was "beaten on the ground in the store's doorway."
Based on information from the lone witness who dialed 911, police were able to find Gildersleeve, according to AL.com.
